Rom 10:9 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10 "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
A lot can be said about this passage:
----Paul said in Rom 10:3 the Jews were lost for they had not submitted unto the righteousness of God, meaning the Jews refused to believe in their hearts and confess with their mouth. So when one believes in his heart and confesses with his mouth he is submitting/obeying God's righteousness for God determined that belief and confession saves.
----not believing and confessing is the same as not obeying the gospel Rom 10:16
----believing and confessing is the same as calling upon the name of the Lord, Rom 10:13
Believe/confess------------------------------------------------------------>unto righteousness/salvation
call upon the name of the Lord---------------------------------------------->saved
Since there is but only one way to be saved, then calling upon the name of the Lord means believing and confessing. Calling upon the name of the Lord means to do as the Lord has said and the Lord did say to believe and confess, Jn 3:16 and Matt 10:32-33
----Paul said to believe AND confess, the conjunction 'and' ties the two together making them inseparatible so 'faith alone' does not save but belief AND confession.
----Paul said believeth UNTO righteousness and confession UNTO salvation so one neither believes nor confesses BECAUSE they are already saved but believe and confess in order to be saved.
----one will remain lost in their disobedience, Rom 10:21 until he does submit to God's righteousness/obey the godpel/call upon the name of the Lord by belieivng and confessing.
