After just skimming through this piece I feel someone has finally come out and said what I've been feeling. Christianity is being compromised all over the place in the name of unity and "tolerance". There IS no tolerance. There IS no way to hevaen but through Jesus. There may be many paths that people think they are traveling but they lead nowhere.

:smt066 let's bring out the big guns to show the way.

Yeah really, and these are statements from Rick warren! I also read that he's pastor to someone who promotes porn and satanic bibles, and refuses to correct this person. He has also accepted large amounts of funds from this garbage!

I was in a Bible study which used the Purpose Driven Life. I had a problem with it, and really couldn't put my finger on it. The others kind of pooh-poohed me, but I kept wondering if Warren was advocating some kind of Universalism.

I'm pretty sure now that he does.

Evangelists have been watering down the gospel for a long time, and even Billy Graham seemed to weaken on one point before with a muslim to enforce "brotherhood". And She is right in noting that "Simply being a Christian does not automatically immunize us from deception."

I know Javier (jgredline) posted this in another thread... but I'll put it here too. I think Jesus' simple statements speak volumes.

"He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me, scatters. Luke 11:23

All this "tolerance", "relativism", and "universalism" does nothing but scatter the truth.

JG, I was looking around the various links to your above link and found this regarding Warren's teachings:

Warren says that if Christians fail in their duty to evangelize, “there will be people who are not in heaven who should have been there.†To claim that some people will end up in eternal torment because of the failure of other people is shocking! To imply that the Lord will not be able to save some people who “should have been†in heaven is blasphemous. I do not know if Mr. Warren realizes the implications of this statement, but a few moments of serious reflection will convince any thinking Christian that this presents a seriously distorted view of God. This view cannot be squared with Scripture and is as dangerous as it is erroneous.

BINGO! This was one of the very concepts that I was struggling with so much during the study of this book. You know what my main problem was during that study: I wasn't on the Internet then! Really. I just had this gut feeling, by picking up on certain things like the above, and the others in the study, all Christians, and some a lot smarter than me, were really promoting the book. I just didn't have any frame of reference to counter some of the stuff discussed during the study.

What is so true about Warren is this phrase right here: to imply. That's it. It's not so much of what Warren said in the Purpose Driven Life, but the implications of it, and the taking of some of what he said and extrapolating it out to it's natural consequenses.

Denying God's power to save would be blasphemous, but let's not forget the flip side of that point: if you are called to evangelize to someone and fail to do so God will replace you and you will be judged for it. I know a story of a pastor who was caaled to build a church but under difficult circumstances he gave up, and 10 years later he attended a new church in the city and the current Pastor mentioned that God had told him to build this church and that he was God's third choice, because two others (whom he did not know) had not heeded God's calling. The Pastor who was originally called to build that Church (and thus pastor it and bring many souls to Christ) wept bitterly when he heard that (realizing that this was the Church he was supposed to build & pastor). There are consequences.

Only a man who does not know God would say something stupid like this...
There is so much wrong with this statement, I don't even know where to start..

I couldn't agree more. A good source to see how Satan's moving in on God's Word is to check out a book called New Age Bible Versions by Gail A Riplinger. There's also a videotape explaining the book. It's very interesting. I've only seen the tape so far and just started to read the book.

Nice to SEE that there truly is 'some' sanity left in the Christian Community!!!

Billy Graham is a PERFECT example of 'watered down' Gospel. He STARTED in the 'right place' and ended up teaching a 'form' of universalism.

And I have found LITTLE difference in the churches themselves. Bowing to the wishes of the congregation instead of STANDING UP for the Word of God. Guess it's become more a matter of 'numbers' than TRUTH. For there are FEW in these 'end of days' that are willing to listen to the 'truth'. It is NOT 'fun' nor does it condusive to 'personal pleasure'.

Wishful thinking and 'talking Jesus' have LITTLE to do with The Truth.
