I was in awe of my physio yesterday. He strapped my ankles/ feet easily whilst chatting with me. Earlier he diagnosed my problem very quickly and provided the appropriate exercise to match. He adjusted my leg similar to a chiro. So much skill and talent.
Visit the hairdresser. Watch the skill in adjusting to customer needs and preferences. Watch the different scissors used . One for thinnning.
Go to a GP. Be in awe of their knowledge of drugs. And their flexibility. From a pregnant mother to an old guy like me with arthritis. So much patience required.

Maybe I pride myself in being more intellectual than pragmatic. But daily encounters remind me that this world needs pragmatic thinkers.
Pragmatic thinkers tend to have sharper focus. They dont get distracted by emotions. Such as pleasing other people. Or fussing over prod and cons. They are decisive. How important it is to be decisive. Especially under pressure.
Look at paramedics. Or first responders. They cant stand there and procrastinate. They have to act. Check airways. Vital signs. They must stick to process. Intellectualism had no place in emergencies.

I really admire people who are both intellectual and pragmatic. Oh and good communicators too.
You meet doctors like that sometimes. Enormous background knowledge. Broad education but can still operate in a very pragmatic setting like a hospital. Can speak the language of the common man. No high and mighty arrogance. Real compassion for the seriously ill and loved ones. We are blessed to have such people.

Not always intelligence, sometimes having done a job for years has let one learn the hard way all the possible combinations and as one is concentrating harder than the customer it is not difficult to appear more intelligent then them.
I sell train tickets, have done for ten years, most customers are thinking of work, there meeting, going to see X and not on where they are going so often they ask for a ticket to this station and not to where X is.
Or they won't to go somewhere, have no idea how, but you do know and they are grateful for your help.
It would happen in my last job deal with access to a computer system. There nervousness and lack of concentration always caused them problems.

Yes many skills require skill in using them as do many trades. I could never beca plumber or a spark.

Intelligence is something we all have, it is how we use it that counts.
