Last night I attended our Inter-Faith Thanksgiving service at the Episcopal Church. We had just about every faith in the community represented; Methodist, Episcopal, United Church of Christ, Roman Catholic Church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Beth Hillel Synagogue, Muslim Community Center, and several non-denominational evangelical Churches. Lots of great messages, lots of wonderful singing, and just a tremendous feeling of peace.

Why can't this be true of the whole world? I know that we're sinful creatures by nature and conflict will reign until Christ returns, but, oh how good it feels to gather in peace once in awhile.

I'm glad you experienced peace during such an event, Mike S . Yes, it would be lovely to enjoy that peaceful unity of community year round.

Years ago, when my 2 older children were in grade school, each classroom sang a couple of songs during the Christmas program. Now, you would think all the parents, grandparents & friends would unite in community during such a special event. But no. Some parent decided to take issue with the fact that his daughter was supposed to sing a solo, and instead she sang a duet with a classmate. That parent just wouldn't calm down and be silent. After the program, while everyone was leaving, that sweet little girl was obviously mortified by her dad's behavior. He ruined her evening.

Our world is inhabited with many people like him. He's not satisfied with how matters are arranged. He feels he and his family are somehow more entitled than others.
