speak not into the ears of fools..

I just noticed something, VERY interesting, from BB's profile.

Proverbs 23:9 Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.

Now, I have seen gays, lesbians, abortionists etc, called fools MANY MANY times on these forums. (usually in connection with the fact that they arent following the divine path of Christ.)

so, Why.. do christians continue to speak into their ears about things? why? Scripture says what they are doing is bad, But scripture (atleast in this spot) says not to talk with them. I know it also says not to eat with fools, and it also says to murder fools..

So why all the talk?

Or did i take something out of context.. again...

You might continue with teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ after you have finished accusing the brethren. You are falling into the same trap that you are speaking against.

Err. You realize that for that to be true, you'd have to be a fool, correct? Unless this was in response to something that Orthodox edited out.

i think its one thing being associated with people like that, and quite something else preaching to them. jesus spoke to people like that...to fools. he taught them the truth, gave them wisdom. whether they were believers or non believers. but disnt he speak once and left them. He told them something and left them to go ponder on it... ??

what about christian people who are "fools"? I think we need to clarify the meaning of the word "fool" in that context...Amplified says this:
9Speak not in the ears of a [self-confident] fool, for he will despise the [godly] Wisdom of your words.(B)
and the KJV also uses the word "fool" ...

one idea: i think what can be meant with this is, dont waste your breath on the foolish, for they simply will not listen to you. tell them once what is the truth, and stop, dont keep on hammering them with your wisdom. what do you think?

check this verse :
Isaiah 32:6 (Amplified Bible)
6For the fool speaks folly and his mind plans iniquity: practicing profane ungodliness and speaking error concerning the Lord, leaving the craving of the hungry unsatisfied and causing the drink of the thirsty to fail.

Good Question Peac4all,

Now, I havn't went to strongs or anything, but I did check out a few definitions from dictionary.com This is what I think when I read those verses... I'm not saying I'm right, I'm just saying what I think..

Fool:sadThese are not in the same order as dictionary.com)
1.To confound or prove wrong; surprise, especially pleasantly.
2.To deceive or trick; dupe
3.One who acts unwisely on a given occasion

Now, with those definitions... If we as Christians believe what the scriptures say, is not a fool somebody that tries to prove God wrong? Arn't they trying to deceive or trick us into believing that scripture isn't correct... or that we have the wrong understanding of scripture? And finally, is that wise?

In other words, if sombody that is preaching what we believe is wrong according to our understanding of scripture, it should be our obligation to make sure that we understand correctly. But you see, sometimes it's our nature to not want to accept scripture because of our own pride or fear for having to make changes in our life... sometimes that change is simply trusting in something that one can't see... sometimes it's about commitment and even sometimes it's the fear of letting go of our fears, for sometimes what we fear, we find comfort in for our own greedy purposes.

So you see, we are not to throw our pearls to swine, that they might be trampled, but rather we are to speak truth to all that ask being careful not to fall into Satan's grasp and become the fool ourselves. Instead, we are told to be wise and crafty and when we see sombody trying to purposfully deceive us, we are to step aside... and that's always a smart thing to do.

There are many variations of biblical truth. We see people debating the Bible on a daily basis. Who determines who is the fool?

(Ps 14:1) "The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God.'"
