It is one of the most painful things we can suffer. To lose our good name in the community. To have a reputation as indecent or dishonest or otherwise bad.
Because we have to survive. We have to look people in the eye. And those eyes will feel unforgiving or judgemental or hateful. Even if they are trying to look past what happened.
I often wonder, after reading news reports, of embezzlement, or even indecent assaults on women. It could have been a one off. They may have repented. Prison or not, life will never be the same.
If God is your only friend, life can feel incredibly tough. ( not that some don't deserve some punishment...I'm not condoning evil...but even good people do bad things)
