I read some place Sam Adams was NOT a drinker... :shrug

beer and tobacco, I wonder how much of our colonies thrived on those sales.

Man those cats didn't play around when it came to drinking.they took drinking very seriously. Were they even sober when they drew up the laws for this country ?

Well, Jesus even made those 908 bottles of hooch for one single party.

Yes,the best wine that had ever been made. But the Bible says not to get drunk. He did not say not to drink alcohol at all.

Were the Founding Fathers Alcoholics?

U.S. colonists drank TWICE the amount of modern Americans as research shows founding fathers guzzled six gallons of pure alcohol every year (inspired by the Brits)
  • Research is part of a Phd thesis by Kristen D. Burton, of Texas University
  • In 1700s, there were more taverns per capita than any other business in US
  • Heavy drinking was in part inspired by British tradition of 'toasting health'

How do we know the founding fathers as a group drank a lot? Well, for one thing, we have records of their imbibing. In 1787, two days before they signed off on the Constitution, the 55 delegates to the Constitutional Convention partied at a tavern. According to the bill preserved from the evening, they drank 54 bottles of Madeira, 60 bottles of claret, eight of whiskey, 22 of porter, eight of hard cider, 12 of beer and seven bowls of alcoholic punch.

yet its not wise, honeslty how many that do drink have never been drunk at least once? or make and idol out of it. one can be an alcoholic and never be a person has been drunk. the definition of that type of addiction allows for those that have to have a beer buzz and have it to function but not necessarily to be drunk, or as I say less then sober

Founding Father or one-termer, Democrat or Republican, almost every president shared something in common: They drank.

In his new book, “Mint Juleps with Teddy Roosevelt: The Complete History of Presidential Drinking” (Regnery), journalist Mark Will-Weber tells the history of presidency through booze. Here, he tells The Post what the favorite tipple was for every chief executive.
