Acts 5:

1But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

2And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

3But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

4Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

The Holy Ghost is God, He can be lied to, as God can be Lied to as this passage clearly sets forth.

That the Holy Ghost is God can be attested to by scripture comparison, much like how Jesus Christ is Proven to be God, Yaweh, by scripture comparison.

Now another attestation of The Holy Ghost is God:

Isa 6 :

8Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

9And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.

10Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.

Here, this sending is clearly by God, Adoni and we have what He said in vs 9-10

Now the NT writer in acts quotes this very same passage and says its the Holy Speaking Acts 28:

25And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,

26Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:

Now let the deniers and unbelievers have their say.

The Holy Spirit brings us life and Paul speaks about the Holy Spirit more than any other topic . He says that the Holy Spirit . brings us salvation by revealing the salvation message to the apostles by bringing the gospel to the people and helping them to tell the message . As we know the H. S. works in our hearts and we cannot become believers without the H. S.

The H. S. is a Divine person of the trinity and not a force . He does not force His way in to our lives . We need to accept and believe and have faith in our hearts that the H. S. is truly divine and a member of the Triune Godhead. Paul demonstrates to us how we can grow as a Christian .

It is hard to understand H. S. as a person who has a personality but as we study what Paul has to say , he wants us to understand the H. S. as a person and gives us many examples such as all knowing , a teacher, He can be grieved , and testimonial that we are God’s sons ( refer to handout for scripture )

The H. S. is the Spirit of God --- the Spirit of Christ …. Romans 8: 9 …. One body --- one Spirit.

Paul associates and includes God the Father God the Son and God the Holy Spirit as one God in Ephesians 4:4 . The H. S. would never do anything out of character as God the Father , God The Son , God the Holy Spirit as the H. S. know the deep thoughts of God . Holy Spirit is our teacher and teaches us to call God “ Abba Father “ The H. S. being relational , prompts us and tells us we belong and indwells us as believers. . H. S. cares about us and being a Divine Person , he directs and cares enough to check our attitudes and He deals with each of us on an individual relationship . That is why e should never compare ourselves with others as we need to understand that the Holy Spirit is personal and relational .

Completed Salvation : The H. S. is working in our lives as a deposit until our redemption . Salvation is not completed yet. This is just a taste of what it will be like in the New Heaven and the New Earth . We have a fortaste of the future . The H. S. is wil each of us intimately .

The Holy Spirit’s role as a teacher is to teach us to be like Jesus . and to have the will of God . H. S. teaches us to live differently and gives us a desire to live for God .

God’s plan was to create a new humanity for God .

Beautiful. Thanks guys.

Totally agree.

Notice here how the Holy Spirit seals us in the promise as a predestinated act in CONJUNCTION with the Word of God.

1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

1:12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

1:14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

Strangelove, finally something I can agree completely with you on! :-)

I also like it how the Holy Spirit is referred to as a He, not it. It's not some cosmic force. I've noticed many people say 'it' when refering to the Holy Spirit.

I love the beauty of the Trinity that each points to the other. For example, the Spirit opens and changes our hearts to the Word and the Father.

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.

Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.

You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.

Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation—but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

You know...I am guilty of doing that. And its not because I do not know whom it is that I am speaking of, but I think more just because He is refereed to 'it' so much. Not that I am trying to make any excuses. But it is interesting how this one part of the trinity is the only one who we will do it to. I cannot think of anytime I said so about the Father or Jesus.

Yeah, we were talking in our youth group about it. And while we were talking about it, we kept refering to the Holy Spirit as it. :lol
We really subconciously think of it more as a force in Star Wars than a compontent of the Trinity.
