I would give you some scripture but there is not really any scripture adequate for your question. I will say Jesus said, if you continue in my teachings the Holy spirit will come upon you and you will know the Truth. That's John 8:31-32. This scripture does not account for the fact that no one can even confess Jesus as the Christ without the Holy Spirit.
The simple fact is when we believe the truth the Truth lives in us. When we give charity out of a pure Love it is God living in us and us living in Him. The Spirit of Truth that testifies to God and His Son is about how Jesus is the same as the Father even because he comes forth from Him and is of the same nature. The Truth therefore is not so much about knowing facts, but about knowing the Person of God, understanding how He is and Who He is, just like knowing you is more than knowing you are a biological creature. You are much more than that. We recognize the Christ because there is something in us that sees the Truth in Him. And this is Truth in us. So the Spirit is present in us to be able to see the Truth. This is what Christ came to quicken in us.
Truth when we hear it is without question, such as Love others as you would want to be Loved. We can clearly see that this is just. Truth therefore is able to convict of sin because we must agree with what is obvious. One must be honest however for Truth to have any life changing consequence. We must be open to God so He can change us. And if we are honest and concede through actions in accordance to that conviction that change will happen.
The cross deals with the matter of sin which is why we as sinners must forgive others to remain just before God. For we cannot help being made flesh. So if we draw lines where we expect others to not cross but we ourselves cross them we are hypocrits. Therefore Truth causes us to be merciful even as we seek mercy for our own sins. If we return good for evil we are always safe in the conviction that God will return good to us for our evil ways and gradually we come into accord with the solid faith that Love is forever and cannot be defeated. And the unbelief of that is where temptation to sin was first born.
