It's quite surprising how often His own prayer figures in the events at the end of His life.

Here is a list, and I'll add no comments.

OUR FATHER

Lk22.42 'Father'

Mk 14.36 'Abba, Father...'

Jn 18.3 '...my Father hath given me'

WHICH ART IN HEAVEN

Jn 19.12 "...power given thee from above..'

HALLOWED BE THY NAME

Jn 12.28 Father, glorify thy name

THY KINGDOM COME

Jn 18.36 "...my kingdom is not of this world..."

THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN

Mk 14.36 "Not what I will, but what thou wilt..."

GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD

Jn 4.34 "...my meat is to do the will of Him that sent me...

LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION

Mk 14.28 Watch and pray, lest ye enter into temptation

BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL

Mt 27.44 He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him..

Heb 5.7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;

FOR THINE IS THE KINGDOM, THE POWER AND THE GLORY FOREVER AND EVER

Mt 16:27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

Mr 8:38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

Dan 7.13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, there came with the clouds of heaven one like unto a son of man, and he came even to the ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.

14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations, and languages should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

AMEN

Jesus lived what is commonly called "the Lord's Prayer". He would not ask us to pray that which he hadn't already experienced. It has been a part of the Christian ritual, what ever form it has taken, since the beginning. For good reason. It's a summary of our relationship with the Father, a life we live more and more as we are conformed to the image of Jesus Christ. That we may be one as Jesus and the Father are one.

Hi Asyncritus

Very good and worthy thoughts. When asked to lead a prayer in our assembly I at times use that prayer as an outline or model. May I suggest that prayer was given as a model by Jesus to His disciples when they asked Him to teach them to pray and that perhaps the real Lord's prayer fell from His lips jiust prior to the cross in Jn.17.

If I understand the NT correctly the only thing we do not pray for today from the model prayer is for the kingom to come. It has come. There is, however, the everlasting kingdom which is yet to come, and for that we can pray.
