The Lost Ark sighted
By Grant R. Jeffrey

On May 15, 1992, CBS broadcast a unique two-hour was the first positive examination of biblical history by a secular television network and won the highest ratings with forty million viewers. The location of the lost Ark of the Covenant was one of the topics. The narrator reported that Rabbi Getz claimed that they have discovered the Ark of the Covenant in the tunnels. However, my Israeli sources report that they were unable to examine the object. Although they could only see it with flashlights for a few minutes in a darkened tunnel from fifty feet away, Rabbi Getz and Rabbi Goren concluded they had found the Ark. Unfortunately, the Arabs heard them and broke into the tunnel from the sub-structures beneath the Dome of the Rock. A terrible fight took place which prevented the rabbis from actually examining the object. Within hours the Arabs sealed the gate with concrete preventing Jewish archeologists from exploring this tunnel area. At this point we cannot be certain if it was the Ark or another object.

There's over a half dozen theories that I know of that suggest where the lost ark is.

One of them is similar to the program you described. An amateur archaeologist (now deceased) who is a purveyor of such a theory is Ron Wyatt. http://www.bibleplus.org/discoveries/arkintro.htm
He and his group described similar conflicts and political "eggshell" climate that you mentioned.

I won't go over the other theories such as the Ethiopian one, but as a person who believes as I do, there are some of us that believe it is with the house of Israel instead of with the Jew. There's no shortage of tales that says it may be in Ireland when the Davidic throne (which is eternal) was transferred to where the lost house (exile) Israelites resided. As history emphatically claims, the Israelites never returned to their land in Palestine after the Assyrian captivity.

That picture gives one a chuckle, but I hope you realize that the "ark" is in a sense a homonym. The original poster is not talking about the same one. I trust you just happened to have that picture on hand to share even though its not related.

You are right on both accounts. I just quickly read the title and I did think it was about the ark (Noah) and I have laughed at that cartoon for donks. It wasn't until immediately I put it up that I read the OP more closely and realised it was talking about the ark of the covenant. But by that time it was too late :shrug and it would be kind of cheating if I took it down!

I just heard that on History channel not long ago. I haven't heard half a dozen, but they said it's in Ethopia guarded by monks and only the monks who guard it can see it. They said presidents, princes, kings, and others have tried, but the monks are the only ones who can see it. :confused ...I think if that were true, there would be many people literally fighting to see it every day. ...but that's just my :twocents

Yeah, I'm not totally sold on the Ethiopian side of it, but it has its origins in prince Menelik the union of Solomon and the queen of Sheba. They claimed Davidic monarchy thru Solomon. As many wives as he had, I'm sure there's lots of people that can claim that right. Supposedly Solomon had a replica ark made for his son, but somehow was switched with the real one (an amazing feat considering the Lord struck anyone dead that touched it) and the Ethiopians now have it. Later in the bible we read about Ethiopians such as in Acts and the Ethiopian Jews. I have nothing against them, but I do not believe they are the most direct lineage of Solomon, nor of Israel.
