The Parable of the Lord of the Vineyard

Matthew 21:33 “There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country.â€

Meaning: God is spiritually likened to the owner of a great estate, whom he has let out to those he put his trust in; the Hebrew children. He built a hedge about his estate and their enemies could not prevail against them. He supplied their every need.

He rescued them from hard bondage in Egypt, he parted the Red Sea for them and they walked upon dry ground. The sandals upon their feet did not wear out in 40 years.

In the day time he led them with a cloud to shield them from the sun and in the night a light of fire to see their way.

He clave the rocks and gave them drink and streams like a river.

He rained down manna like corn from heaven and they did eat angel’s food. He rained feathered fowl like the sand of the sea; he sent them meat to the full, for he gave them their own desires.

Then God left them and went his way, to return later and see how they had managed his vineyards.

21:34, “And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it.

Meaning: God knowing that he had given to their charge everything necessary to bring forth good fruit he sent his messengers (the prophets) to inform them of his coming, that he might receive the fruits of it.

21:35, “And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.

Meaning: But the husbandmen in whom God had put his trust (the Jews of the House of Israel) beat Gods messengers and killed the prophets and stoned the others.

21:36, “Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise.â€

Meaning: God, who is slow to anger, sent more prophets to inform the Jews of his way; the way of righteousness, so that they could bear much fruit and prove themselves worthy of their charge, but they did unto them likewise.

21:37, “But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son.â€

Meaning: Then at the last he sent unto the Jews his only begotten Son; a tender son full of grace and truth and thought to himself, Surely they will honor my Son for he is my only begotten and they will recognize him for it was prophesied too them from the beginning that the Messiah would come from God and he is to be honored above all men of the earth.

21:38, “But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir, come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.â€

Meaning: John 11:45-48, “Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
46) But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.
47) Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? For this man doeth many miracles.
48) If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: And the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.â€

So let us kill him. We will take the kingdom and rule the world without him. We will be in charge.

21:39, “And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him.â€

Meaning: And so the Jews took the heir of the kingdom of God outside the city to a place in the in the Hebrew tongue called Golgotha and there they slew him.

21:40, “When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen?

Meaning: And Jesus asks the Jews, What will God do to those he set in charge over his kingdom when he returns?

21:41, “They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons.â€

Meaning: The unbelieving Jews were blinded to the hidden meaning of this parable and sealed their own fate by the words of their own mouth; for God will take away the kingdom that was promised to them in the beginning and give it to their servants. The new order, an order appointed by the Spirit will reign over the world and as prophesied, the elder shall serve the younger; the believing Gentiles (the Spiritual House of Israel; the true Jew) will rule the world with Christ with a rod of iron.

In your zeal you've incorrectly grouped the "many" with the "some". The Spiritual House of Israel (the true Jew) contains many ethnic Jews and many ethnic Gentiles.

I pretty much completely agree with your assessment of this parable. Although I believe that when all Israel is saved (Romans 11 I think), they will also rule and reigh with us. And of course, all believing Jews who are alive now, will also rule and reign with us in His kingdom.

Romans 2:28-29, "For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
29) But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

and so spiritually speaking only the jews will reign with christ. thank you for your reply.

this is not the correct interpretation of Romans 2:28-29.
Paul is telling the Jews that a true Israelite is one with a renewed heart and spiritual circumcision.

the race of the Jews came through Isaac but the promise to all came through Abraham.
therefore, we as gentiles are grafted into the family of God.
but we are never Jews.
