“…whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— that I may know him andthe power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.”Philippians 3:7-11 ok folks time to break out the steaks strong meat belongs to them of age...so whats your thoughts on the power of his resurrection. this is not a debate but rather a discussion .{word of warning if it goes south i will remove the post.}

I think it's referring to the power that is offered to believers, that not only will we suffer for Him and with Him, but we will overcome and walk as He walked in this world. We have died with Him and have been resurrected in His life, which makes us a new creation in Christ, through faith, we are partaking in His divine nature and with this power, our lives are being transformed and we are being conformed to the full measure of Christ.

That's what I think, I can't wait to hear what others have to say about it!

I want to know Christ--yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, Philippians 3:10 NIV

You are talking about 'RESURRECTION POWER" (DUNAMIS POWER, WHICH MEANS...EXCELLENCE OF SOUL). This is release through your spirit man. The scripture says it like this, "Our power is based on God's favor."

STEP 1 — “Lord Jesus, I repent for every time I let myself become offended. I ask that You take your blood and totally wash away my sins of offense. I repent for thinking offended thoughts toward that person. I repent for saying offended words about them. I put Your blood on every thought of offense and every offended word I said about another person. Wash my mind, my heart and my mouth in Your blood. Take away every sinful thought and sinful word with Your blood. Heal me of every sin of offense by the power of Your blood shed on the Cross and empower me to never become offended again. Lord, I also forgive that person for being offended at me. Wash them of their sins of offense and cleanse them of that sin so they do not become sick.”

STEP 2 — “Now, Jesus, I ask that You would heal my soul of every wound that was created by my sins of offense. Your blood took care of the sin, and now Your dunamis power will heal the wounds that came from my offenses. Lord, cause me to be what dunamis means: excellent of soul! Fill my soul with this power that comes through Your resurrection! Saturate me with resurrection power! I partake of it now! I command every deadly wound that came from my words of slander and offense to be filled with dunamis. Heal me in both body and soul, Lord. I decree I am excellent of soul, so now cause me to prosper and be in health even as my soul is prospered! In Jesus’ mighty name! Amen.”

thats a nice worded prayer . we are given the power the moment of salvation. we must learn how to use this But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: pray read his word put it into action by faith.

To me it says, whatever i could have had in the natural or in my way of getting it, i count it as a loss....or i give it all up, submitting to God and His ways of doing and being. Knowing Jesus is way more important than living my way. I choose to deny my fleshly natural ways in order to suffer like Jesus did so that i can become a living example of Him and His ways and love. Loosing everything is well worth gaining my place in eternity. Because i know that the righteousness i have is not my own but comes from God. For it is The Father within me He does the work. And the right standing that i have i receive by faith, that i may know (become one with) Him and the power that comes from being one with Him, and from the Father working within me. That by any means possible i may attain my place in heaven for eternity.
Woo hoo! Praise the Almighty! And thanks ezra for the opportunity to ponder something uplifting!

I was going to ask you a question, do you think if we are to walk as Jesus walked that we could become sinless in this life time?

The exact moment my heart and mind grasped the truth of the resurrection, he gave me the Holy Spirit. It was a literal event that took place.

I was going to ask you a question, do you think if we are to walk as Jesus walked that we could become sinless in this life time?
NOPE we would have to be just like him thus no need of a Savior. can our walk with him make us to sin less? yes thats what the walk is and awareness of him. last night i preached a message by the tittle IN HIM john 15 he says w/o me (Christ ) you can do nothing he abides in us and we abide in him. { in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him , not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith} dont get me wrong about sin... paul wrote sin can not have control of us because we are under grace not law . SIN is there no way to avoid it ,but as the old saying goes just cause the bird builds its nest there. dont mean it has to stay. we can overcome sin by being IN HIM . :amen:readbible:)

this can be a really good discussion shoot there can be more scripture added

I have to say that john 15 is a favorite passage of mine, and something that i pray often, letting God know that my hearts desire is to be so ingrafted into the vine that one could not tell where i leave off and Jesus begins.
John 15:9 says As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you:continue in my love. As we abide within the righteousness of Christ, and what He has given to us...even as ...means that we are commanded to love just as Jesus loves, and we cannot do that without Jesus' equipment (which is the Holy Spirit). As we obey God's commands, He will begin to perfect things in us.
1 John 3:23 says that as He is so are we in this world. I do agree that we will not ever be sinless, until we reach heaven. But it seems to me if we stay rooted and grounded within Him and keep our focus on Him we can get closer to the goal of being sinless.
And the work that God can do through us will be mighty.
Matthew 6:33 comes to mind....seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right) and all these things shall be added unto you. Things could a whole dictionary full of meanings. Since our righteousness is not our own, but comes from The Blood that Jesus shed on the cross, as the payment for our sins...we should be bending over backwards to please the Father by devoting ourselves to being obedient to His every word and command. And our goal should not just be for the manifestations of THEE BLESSING, but simply because we want to show Him how much we love Him.
Blessings to you all

I was just curious because people always say what you have written above. On one hand they say we can overcome sin by being in Him (which I know we can), but then on the other hand, they say being in Him is not quit strong enough to overcome all sin or at least certain sin.

I'm not arguing - at all - I just think that it's contradictory sometimes. :shrug

Jesse,
I believe that we can overcome sin (only with the help of the Holy Spirit), but we will never be sinless. To God because we have been covered by the shed blood of Jesus, we are seen as sinless, and forgiven. In this world, because we are human and live in a fleshly body, we are bound to make mistakes. ie. Bad attitude, hanging on to a hurt to long, etc. But when we focus on Jesus, who is the author and finisher of our faith, over time we will become more like Jesus. Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit, to correct, lead and guide, take what the Father says and tell to us, and teach us. If we listen to Him and yield to His ways, one day we will look and see that (wow i have not done that in a long time) something that we had been struggling with is not a struggle anymore.
The devil wants to keep a sin consciousness, so that we will focus on our sin, trying in our best effort to walk upright, but failing, so that our focus becomes on ourselves and not on our Savior. Thus it is easier for him to trick us into temptations. And if we feel defeated all the time eventually, some people loose hope and backslide, because they believe that God's ways don't work (which is just the lie that the enemy wants us to believe). God's ways always work.
Blessings my friend

Hi Cturtle,
Thanks for your explanation. I have heard this many times before as well, and agree with much of it but it leaves me wondering: if we are seen as sinless, but we still sin, then wouldn't that be God having a distorted view of us? We are not sinless, so He's kind of lying to Himself if you know what I mean, and we would be lying to ourselves too because we're really not sinless. I have also heard that everything is covered, including sin, wouldn't it be better to get rid of the sin instead of covering it up?

How many sins can we perform and still be seen as sinless?

Amen! Agree, the works He will do through us is and will be mighty. The best part of my day is watching/seeing what God will do next (not necessarily through me, but through believers in general). Even an atheist neighbor one time, God used to answer one of my prayers!

It's a journey and we get to be on it!

Hi Cturtle,

It's not God lying to Himself or to us, it's the Blood of Jesus that covers us.
It's like washing our hands. Every time we get dirt on our hands (or we sin) and we wash it off (repent) then our hands are clean again (we are clean in the eyes of God). But where did the dirt go? We washed it off, and cannot see it anymore. The same is true of God's forgiveness. We asked to be forgiven and God cleansed us with Jesus' Blood.
When Jesus died as the one pure sacrifice, and went down into hell, conquering sin, death, and the grave, He took the keys of all that and gave it back to us. Now because He loves us and does not want a bunch of robots, He has chosen to give us the choice to be obedient or not. And in His Word when He tells us to renew our minds with the Word, His desire is that we will renew our minds, causing our bodies to follow, and by faith, when we choose to submit to His Ways, we are not choosing to cover up our sins but train ourselves to do the things that He wants, and what pleases Him. If we by faith focus only on what the Word says eventually we stop doing those things that we didn't want to do.
Because we are human, and live in a fleshly body, we can strive to walk perfect, but because the enemy is constantly walking around seeking whom he may devour, sometimes we are going to not recognize the ways that the enemy tries to trip us up. Thus it's result is committing a sin. If we immediately confess that sin, and repent, then our breastplate of righteousness (or our right standing with God) is put back in place. The thing to remember is that the righteousness is not something that we earned, but that Jesus bought for us with His Blood.
It's like paying for a movie and you are able to watch it over and over again. How many times can you watch it? As many as you want. You see Jesus bought the rights to our movie and gave it to us when we decided to make Him our Lord. And now every time we sin, we just rewind the tape like it never happened. We walk by faith believing that as we ask God to forgive us for the mistake we made, that He chooses to not remember it. He loves us so much that when we goof and repent (which means to turn from whatever), He then chooses to treat us like we never sinned. The definition of Grace is God's overwhelming desire to treat us as if sin never happened.

Ezra, thanks for being obedient to God, to be a light in this world. To not gravitate to what everyone else is doing, but to go against the grain!
May the Lord Bless you and keep you
May He make His face shine upon You, and be graciousto you
Make He look upon you with favor and give you peace
