Which of the 4 Sherwood movies are your favorite? What are your thoughts on them? Here are my personal reviews of each of their 4 films.
FLYWHEEL: Though this was a low budget film, this movie opened the door for Sherwood Baptist Church to be the big Christian movie making success is has become today. Though the way things happened in this movie seems too good to resemble reality (i.e. Jay Austin Motors suddenly selling their entire inventory of used cars in one day to save their business after a surprise appearance on a news show), it does a good job of representing the importance of trusting God with what he has entrusted to us and working with integrity. This movie is a good watch for any Christian who is or may consider starting their own business.
FACING THE GIANTS: As a die hard football fan, I find this movie fun to watch. However I do have some mixed feelings on the overall plot. The storyline seems way too fairytale-like. There are occasions when women who have trouble getting pregnant do eventually get pregnant, but the scene where that one erratic kicker with the short kicking range suddenly has the wind change direction instantly to help him kick a game winning 51 yarder while he slips and falls on his back to defeat a dynasty football team seems way too unrealistic. Yes I know the point of the movie is to show that nothing is impossible with God, but scenes like that do seem a little cheesy to me.
FIREPROOF: This is the movie where I feel Sherwood really starts to find it's groove and starts to turn heads with their movie making. Though as a guy who works on cars for a living, I find it hard to believe that a bunch of people can really pick up and move a car fast enough before an on-coming train arrives, I do find the overall story line to be much more realistic than the previous 2 films. This movie definitely exposes the reasons why 50% of marriages today crash and burn. If I have to choose favorites between the 4 Sherwood movies, this one comes in at a very close second. This is a movie every married couple needs to watch regardless of their faith in Christ or how good or bad their marriage is.
COURAGEOUS: This one is my favorite of the 4 (as is likely the case for most Christians who have seen these 4 films). This movie seems way more realistic than the previous 3 and they did an exceptional job at creating a Hollywood quality-like film with a very good plot and not over preach but yet make the gospel message very clear and not watered down. This movie has a little bit of everything for people of all movie tastes. It has the comedy, the drama for women who enjoy chick flicks and the action for guys who like action movies.
