I was raised in the Roman Catholic Church, and have the gesture pretty well ingrained. I do it all the time. I'm wondering how widespread it is. (I'm mentioning the RCC only as it relates to the religious sign.)

Hi Brother KevinK; ex Catholic here. I found many things of repetitious religiousness worship something that hung on to me for quite a time.

First let me address the term “In the name of our Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” (Douay-Rheims)
Mat 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach (Make disciples of) all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
(Has Jesus taken that power at this present time? - there’s a time coming when Jesus will speak these words: Rev 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. Jesus presently sits in the throne of our Father as our advocate. On the Lord’s Day [Rev 1:10 The time when Jesus takes the power given Him] when John was given the Revelation of Jesus.)

Even if all this is not yet understood, consider the following scripture. Why the difference?
Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Col 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Blessings in Christ Jesus. :wave2
