42 And the Lord said, “Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his master will make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season? 43 Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. 44 Truly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all that he has. 45 But if that servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and be drunk, 46 the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.
Luke 12:42-46

In this parable, Jesus is teaching us about a servant of His that He has made or appointed or promoted to be ruler, among His other servant's, to provide for His household, until He returns.

He describes two different outcomes, that could occur, in His absence.

The servant He made ruler is either:
  • Obedient or Disobedient
  • Faithful or Unfaithful

When He returns, He evaluates whether the servant He made ruler over His household was obedient or disobedient.

How can we apply this to our own life?

For me personally, it inspires me to want to do the necessary things to be better at hearing His voice, and being led by the Spirit, to do what He has put me on this earth to do.

Please comment with scripture.

I like this thread of yours, old friend. This certainly is a good time to be thinking about how each one of us is seen in the eyes of our Master Jesus. Obedient? or Disobedient. So many folk who have made professions in Christ Jesus, but because so much time has elapsed since the Apostle Paul felt that Jesus could come back at any time, these folk have backed off from their "first love" like the Laodiceans did and the Ephesians.

Now is the time to wake out of our slumber. Jesus will come when we least expect it. Obedience? O yes JLB, thanks for this wake up call.

Love You,

Yes sir.

I was guilty myself of doing just that, forgetting my first love, and allowing my self to become lukewarm.

In the last few years the Lord has stirred me and convicted me and I have responded to His Spirit by repenting and confessing my sin, and turning away from the things that so easily weigh me down with foolish habits that do noting to invest in my spiritual life and growth.

Repent is the call of the Lord to, turn to Him and be re-established at the top [penthouse] of His created order, reigning with Him in dominion.

The Gospel is the call to mankind, for "us" to come out of "hiding" in darkness and to complete His purpose for mankind which can be found in the first words spoken to us in the Garden.

  • God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion... Genesis 1:28

I say "us" because we all were contained in Adam's loins when the Lord spoke this to him.

Just as we all have inherited the sin in Adam, we also have inherited the purpose and calling to rule in dominion over the earth, just as Jesus demonstrated for us by His life and example.

We are to take dominion over Satan and his forces of darkness, as well as sickness and disease, while serving our brothers and sisters.

We can not be faithful stewards of this while being weighted down with sin and carnal relationships.

I hope to hear from others about their personal experience, and share with us how the Lord has taught them to be separated and set apart unto Him, and to be led by His Spirit.

Be blessed old friend, and thank you for your faithful service to His people.

Thanks again for your timeless post. I too went thru a slump spiritually a few years back. It seemed that the Holy Spirit nudged my heart to go back to Exodus and acquaint myself again what is God's pleasure in His Commands, Statues, and rules. I have done just that and am finishing up Leviticus and moving to Numbers.

I have indeed looked into God's great big heart as I've followed along with His pleasures and disappointments. If I've learned anything, it's that God loves obedience, and He rewards it greatly.
