The Apostles lived in a time where the new church was persecuted at every turn. It was the beginning of the kingdom i.e. the Body. They didn't live to see whole nations and governments become "Christian," or societies that tolerated or even welcomed "Christianity." It was a whole different time.

What do you think the Apostles, or Jesus would say if they lived today concerning all of the freedoms we have to worship as we see fit, freely express our faith without being jailed or tortured etc? (Speaking of free areas of the world, Western etc). They didn't really leave any notes on what you should or shouldn't be involved in concerning government, rights groups, civic duties in countries that tolerate or were built on some sort of Biblical ideals etc. For the most part they couldn't do those things back then. What would they say beyond the "don't take part in debauchery or wickedness etc," and "live holy lives."?

What do you think their instructions would be to people living in free countries that for the most part believed their was one God, and, that that God had a son who came to earth etc? Would they tell you to be like the Amish with no involvement or modern conveniences? Or would they give their OK to activists who wanted to be involved in social change and government etc?

Would they say the same things such as, "the coming of the Lord is at hand"? (Jas 5:8) Or, "the fashion of this world is passing away"? (1Co 7:31) Would Jesus tell us to "hold fast 'til I come" with the urgency he did the people living back then? (Rev 2:25) Or would Paul say, "the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly"? Would they repeat all of those things to the people living now?

What would they tell people living now?

Any answers helpful. As always, scripture is nice. :)

Well, they had freedom to worship at the time of Christ, it was just being done the wrong way. The entire priesthood was corrupted (but there were some good ones like Nicodemus).

I always teach that John the Baptist was God's true High Priest, and he sent him into the wilderness to get him out of all that mess.

Cheers,

Thanks Lance.

I was more referring to the time after Christ, when the Apostles were setting up the church, and, they were being persecuted by the Jews and Romans.

What do you think their message would be today to the Christians living in "Christian" nations? Would they view Christian nations as, being setup by God, or, kind of a fluke, or even, a perversion of what Christ preached?

Any answer appreciated. :)

Wow! And.. 'Any answer will be appreciated?' That is a loaded question! First 'i' am very sad. :verysad
I do not see it the way most do. (Heb. 6:6 & 2 Peter 2:19-22 are not just warnings of Inspiration giving us blank bullets, as I see it) And how does this belief of mine below find my daily life?? Matt. 10:25.

Yet.. we do see that sin is done BOTH by comission or OMISSION! (Eze. 33:7-9 still does not remove the heart/ache! one only wonders at the eternal loss of Lucifer & Cain that was felt by their loved ones? :( )

And these ones of Rev. 17:1-5 are DOCUMENTED BY INSPIRATION as 'The Abomination Of The Earth'! And I see Rev. 2 & 3 telling 'me' that the seven Chanlesticks find the LAST VIRGIN ONE IN DOCTRINE ONLY, being warned of being Spewed OUT as SICKENING! (only the verse 10 one is kept) So it is that Laodicea is the Synagogue of satan in verse 9!

Any how, this IS how my convictions stand. Col. 1:23

Revelation 3:15-20
I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

I think that they would be in shock at the worldliness that exemplifies believers today. We may be rich, but not in spiritual life. We are definitely living in the time of Laodicea, as Tim has posted above.

I agree with John, I think they would be shocked and sad to see what we have done with the freedom they could only dream of.
