The Apostles lived in a time where the new church was persecuted at every turn. It was the beginning of the kingdom i.e. the Body. They didn't live to see whole nations and governments become "Christian," or societies that tolerated or even welcomed "Christianity." It was a whole different time.
What do you think the Apostles, or Jesus would say if they lived today concerning all of the freedoms we have to worship as we see fit, freely express our faith without being jailed or tortured etc? (Speaking of free areas of the world, Western etc). They didn't really leave any notes on what you should or shouldn't be involved in concerning government, rights groups, civic duties in countries that tolerate or were built on some sort of Biblical ideals etc. For the most part they couldn't do those things back then. What would they say beyond the "don't take part in debauchery or wickedness etc," and "live holy lives."?
What do you think their instructions would be to people living in free countries that for the most part believed their was one God, and, that that God had a son who came to earth etc? Would they tell you to be like the Amish with no involvement or modern conveniences? Or would they give their OK to activists who wanted to be involved in social change and government etc?
Would they say the same things such as, "the coming of the Lord is at hand"? (Jas 5:8) Or, "the fashion of this world is passing away"? (1Co 7:31) Would Jesus tell us to "hold fast 'til I come" with the urgency he did the people living back then? (Rev 2:25) Or would Paul say, "the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly"? Would they repeat all of those things to the people living now?
What would they tell people living now?
Any answers helpful. As always, scripture is nice.
