I've heard it stated that there is power in the cross. But I thought the cross was triumphed by Christ. The cross is not too powerful if Christ rose back to life.

Thou shalt not bow down thyself to [Graven Images]. Exodus 20:5
It's the message of the cross wherein there is power, that Christ died on it, but death could not hold him. And that power is of God.

Jesus is alive...and

If the cross had power, he would not be alive right now. But he is risen. He defeated the grave. It's God who has the power. And it's in the message of the cross. Not the cross itself (1 Cor 1:18).

Thus the empty cross remains only a symbol. But to show someone a cross does not save them. Salvation is in the hands of God. Jesus risen from the dead is foolishness to them that perish.

O death where is thy sting?

You're right. When people say the power of the cross, they mean the power of seeing displayed on the cross, how divine Love conquered death. It's a figure of speech not meant to be taken literally.

I think some do however. "Stay back!"

My Brothers,
The Holy Spirit works exclusively within the realm of the Finished Work of Christ. This means that He works entirely within the parameters which are defined by the Cross (Romans 8:2, 11).

The Holy Spirit requires that our Faith be anchored solely in the Cross of Christ, because the price was paid at the Cross. When our Faith is properly placed, in other words, that the Cross is ever the object of our Faith, the Holy Spirit will then work mightily within our lives (Romans 6:3-5; 8:1).

The object of our faith without exception must be Christ and the Cross. Paul said "We preach Christ crucified" (1 Cor. 1:23).

Not understanding the Cross as it regards Sanctification, the object of faith for most Christians is something else entirely, which the Holy Spirit can never honor. For instance, millions make the object of their faith the confession of certain Scriptures, and the reciting of them over and over again, thinking that this somehow will move God to action. While the memorization of Scriptures is very good (and should be done by every Believer), still, the act of doing such will not bring about victory whatsoever in the heart and life of the Believer. The reason is simple:

When the Believer 's object of faith is in such, it means it's not in Christ and the Cross, which means the Holy Spirit will not honor such. He honors Christ and the Christ Alone! This must never be forgotten.

Compared to what Jesus went through, I think the cross I bear is about that size.

Yeah. He went through the cross and much more. When the people blindfolded him and said "Tell us who smote you, if you are who you said you were" hits me. They played a psychological operation on Jesus.

Your Faith must be only in Christ and the Cross (The Blood of Jesus) exclusively. If it is placed in anything else you are under the "Law" which places you under a curse!

But that is the message of the cross, and not the physical object itself.

As Christ said similar to your post "Ye seek the scriptures, for in them you think you have salvation, but it is me that they testify".

I'm not saying disregard the cross. I'm saying there was a cross which Christ conquered.

For if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

The Cross = The Blood of Jesus = Salvation, power, healing, deliverance, prosperity and so much more!,

This is what I am saying. What is the power in? The cross? Or God?

For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 1 Cor 1
It is by the power of God that the message of the cross even has effect (That is to save them that believe). For it is the power of God to use not just the cross, but the cross, and the crucifixion, and the tomb, and the rising of the Messiah.

All I'm saying is that there is not power in the physicality of the cross itself, otherwise if it had any power it would be God that didn't have the power. God is what gave the power to anything.

Likewise, you have the written word of God. It's only the physical pages, binding, and ink which testifies of the power of the only true God in Christ that is outside of the object itself.

In other words, all the bibles and manuscripts could be burned.

But God would raise up rocks.

And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.

That is why Paul said, “For the preaching (Message) of the Cross is to them who perish foolishness (Spiritual things cannot be discerned by unredeemed people, but that doesn’t matter; the Cross must be preached just the same, even as we shall see); but unto us who are Saved it is the Power of God. (The Cross is the Power of God simply because it was there that the total sin debt was paid, giving the Holy Spirit, in Whom the Power resides, latitude to work mightily within our lives)” (I Cor. 1:18).

I think you're right the resurrected Christ is more powerful than the cross itself.

Anyone who does not honour the Son does not respect the Father. John 5:23 ERV

2 Corinthians 13:5 Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)
5 Look closely at yourselves. Test yourselves to see if you are living in the faith. Don’t you realize that Christ Jesus is in you? Of course, if you fail the test, he is not in you.
