This is my son with whom I am pleased

A sentence with which probably all know. The words spoken by God after Jesus was baptised. The following are 3 different versions of the words spoken.

Matthew 3:17 (NLT)
And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”

Matthew 3:17 (NIV)
And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

Matthew 3:17 (NKJV)
And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Now I never ever remember being told this phrase loved/beloved in.
So I have often thought God is only pleased with us when we are obedient to him.
What's your thoughts? Is he only pleased with us when we are obedient? Do will bring him great joy? Are we still loved? Are we still his beloved?

Brother Wrg1405, it ain't gonna happen. God loves us at all times, He sees us in Jesus, and there is no condemnation for us which are in Christ. Our problem is conscience of things paid for in Jesus' blood, and conscience even keeps us from fully approaching Him who loves us unconditionally.

Take Israel's countless infractions of God's drawing them and He says the following:
Isa 49:14 But Zion said, The LORD hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me.
Isa 49:15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.
Isa 49:16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

The OP reminds me of this letter I have had for a very long time, forgot where I had gotten it from, but here goes, hope you enjoy it..

How are you? I just had to send this letter to tell you how much I love and care about you.
I saw you yesterday as you were walking with your friends. I waited all day hoping you would talk to me.
As evening grew near, I gave you a sunset to close your day and a cool breeze to rest you, and I waited, you never came, oh yes, it hurt me, but I still love you because I am your best friend, the best friend you ever had, I'm always there through good times and bad..Whenever you need me, just call on me, I'll be glad, to lend you a hand. I saw you fall asleep last night, and I longed to touch your brow, so I spilled moon light upon your pillow and face..
Again, I waited, wanting to rush down so we could talk. I have so many gifts for you.
You awakened late and rushed off for the day, my tears were in the rain, today, you looked so sad, so alone.
It makes my heart ache because I understand. My friends let me down and hurt me many times too, but I love you.
I try to tell you in the quiet green grass, I whisper it in the leaves and trees, breathe it in the colors of the flowers. I shout it to you in the mountain streams, and give the birds, love songs to sing. I clothe you with warm sunshine and perfume the air.
My love is deeper than oceans, and bigger than the biggest want or need you have.
We will spend eternity together, because, I'm your best friend you ever had.
I'm always there through the good times and bad, whenever you need me, just call on me, I will be glad, to lend you my hand, I'm the best friend you ever had.
I know it is hard on earth, ( I really know, because I was there) and want to help you. My father wants to help you too, He's that way you know.
Just call me, ask me, talk to me..It is your decision..

Wow what an insight. I never thought it about that way. Our conscience is for the things paid for in Jesus' blood and it can keep us from approaching God. I have often struggled with the fact that I'm a dirty rotten sinner who obviously doesn't love God, cause if I did I would be obedient.

How beautiful. I am a man that shuts his emotions down when it comes to being loved and keep my emotions about how I feel about myself (and they ain't good ones) you have just made a 48 year old cry and beleive you me not many have done that to me.

But your post has just blown my mind. I'm going to copy and paste it into a word document and keep it and read it and read it and pray it and pray it and accept it.
