I just got done watching Nik Wellenda cross a custom made wire stretched across the Grand Canyon. It was live with a 10 second delay. The rope was as thick as 2 bottle caps and he crossed it with no safety equipment.
Nik Wallenda plans to cross the Little Colorado River on the Navajo Reservation, a 1,400-foot traverse above a 1,500-foot canyon on a 2-inch thick steel cable.

He has done a variety of stunts, even one hanging by his teeth. Early I watched him walk the same tightrope walk that his father had died in during the late 70s.

When I watched this I had a mixture of thoughts. I was a bit dissatisfied that they were talking about the spiritual importance of the land to the pagan American Indian tribes almost with the smallest hint that they approve their sun worship. That didn't matter though as I watched. Because what was more important prevailed through out the show. That was the fact that I saw Jesus being glorified more and more. At first I was wondering if this was an end of the day message for me. I got baptized today, and felt God showing me an example of great faith in Jesus that produces such bravery and accomplishments.

Then I wondered if this could even be a message to the world. Considering that this seems to be a very popular event right now. He is setting another record of cheating death.
"Thank you, Jesus,'' he could be heard saying repeatedly as he walked.

He was wired with cameras and a microphone, and his voice could be heard saying prayers as he walked the rope.
I heard him saying "God is good". His mind seemed very focused on God. At the end of the walk, the reporters were discussing the importance of his faith, and he quoted Philippians 4:7, that it brings a peace that surpasses all understanding.

Even more so, it reminded me of the instance of when Jesus Christ walked across the waters, and Peter walked out after him.

26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
Matthew 14:26-31

Is this event calling people to take faith in Christ? The nation of America is no doubt being called to repentance. Tragedy is clearly on the rise. Is it being a negative Nancy proving the negative events around are growing? It clearly lines up with prophecy. It clearly shows that God's judgement is upon us until we take faith in Christ alone and repent. The passage above shows that Jesus helps us in the storms of life. That those of little faith will stumble, but those who trust in Jesus Christ alone will rise up.

Where is God? Why doesn't God heal amputees? Why God? It almost seems like people are becoming like Job, but completely blind. The throw these jabs as though it's Gods fault but they don't step back and look at themselves.

The question people need to ask in reality is: WHY ME?
Job's misery and complaints.
Let the day of my birth be erased, and the night I was conceived.
Job 3:3
If my misery could be weighed and my troubles be put on the scales,
they would outweigh all the sands of the sea. That is why I spoke impulsively. For the Almighty has struck me down with his arrows. Their poison infects my spirit. God’s terrors are lined up against me. Don’t I have a right to complain?
Job 6:2-5
If I have sinned, what have I done to you, O watcher of all humanity?
Why make me your target? Am I a burden to you?

Job 7:20
I cry to you, O God, but you don’t answer. I stand before you, but you don’t even look. You have become cruel toward me. You use your power to persecute me. You throw me into the whirlwind and destroy me in the storm. And I know you are sending me to my death— the destination of all who live.
Job 30:20-23

God's Response
Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you know so much. Who determined its dimensions and stretched out the surveying line? What supports its foundations, and who laid its cornerstone as the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?
Job 38:5-7

This generation is like Job in the sense of complaining. They put all the blame on God, because they can't take their own fault. People also see negative not just happening to them, but to others because the scales on their eyes have not been removed. They then question God like Job had done. Thinking that God just feels like unleashing wrath for fun. But that is not the case.

In fact there is one little thing that people are lacking that Job at least could touch on. That is "Where have I gone wrong?" and also praising the LORD in dark situations.

Surely no one would turn against the needy when they cry for help in their trouble. Did I not weep for those in trouble? Was I not deeply grieved for the needy?
Job 30:24-25
He said, "I came naked from my mother's womb, and I will be naked when I leave. The LORD gave me what I had, and the LORD has taken it away. Praise the name of the LORD!"
Job 1:21
Now this why I feel that this could be a call from God in this tight rope event. And we should pray that more events happen like this that will give even more Glory to God in the name of Christ Jesus our Lord. We're in very negative times. Wars and rumors of wars, pestilences, and so on. The beginning of birth pains. Maybe we are or maybe we are not in the "end times", but it feels like it and there's a lot going on. I see my friend, who lives with his aunt and uncle, being greatly affected by the economy. They are broke. We're seeing rights being manipulated and abused, and the nation is becoming more Godless as homosexuality, promiscuity, divorce, and all that. And the question rises "where is your God".

Where is my God? I believe he just showed himself. He just showed himself because he has faith, I have faith, and he has blessed someone with success. God keeps people his people safe. Read Psalm 91. It says not to fear the arrows that fly by day, nor the pestilence that lurks in the darkness. It tells us thousands will fall around us but it shall not come nigh thee. Those who take refuge in the LORD will have angels to lift them up in their troubles.
I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you.
Job 42:2

Life itself is a tightrope walk. Jesus said the path was narrow. He warned us of apostasy, and that it is rising.
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Isaiah 1:18

No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.

Isaiah 54:17

Before you ask where my God is, ask Jesus Christ to take the scales off your eyes, to soften your heart, and put your faith in him alone. Believe in him that you may be saved, and you'll find truth. When you're walking that tight rope in life, don't fret. Matthew 6 says we won't add an hour worrying, and Matthew 28 tells not to fear a thing but God himself. Don't be afraid to walk that tight rope. Trust in Jesus. Don't fear death, for if you do your faith in Christ will give you everlasting life.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Isaiah 41:10

Is this event calling people to take faith in Christ?

No.

I'm tired of seeing foolish people needlessly take their own lives into their hands by doing stupid stunts like this.

This stunt in particular reminds me of when the Devil tempted Jesus to cast himself down from the pinnacle of the Temple and trust that the misuse of a scripture would ensure his protection from holy angels. (The devil, the original 'not rightly dividing the word of God' influence in the church).

John talks about the love of the world:

"15 Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world." (1 John 2"15-16 NASB)

This person is actually showing us that he does NOT have the love of God in him. He's filled with the love of the world and all that it exalts and treasures.

This present preoccupation with talent and fame--what I call the 'talent search' mentality--has infiltrated the church. It's nothing more than worldliness and the love and desire for the things of the world (money, fame, recognition, success--the pride of life) wrapped in the name of God to rationalize it as being something good and, therefore, okay to pursue.
