Well, I haven't been at college but for about a month, but I've already learned important things I wish I had known before:
1) Know the definition of "liberal arts" before you choose to attend a liberal arts school. Seriously.
2) Understand that it may be difficult in the beginning to make friends. If people aren't instantly your best friend, don't go home and cry. It just makes you feel worse.
3) Read your syllabi. Otherwise, you might learn that you have a five-page paper due in just five days, that you needed to be working on the last five weeks.
4) Don't procrastinate. Study. If you think you have enough time, you don't. I repeat, you do not have enough time. Study now. Don't put it off until the last minute, or you will be stuck reading some dumb novel in one weekend, that you were supposed to start on the first day of the semester.
5) Don't eat junk in the cafeteria. It will make you sick. You need vegetables, and you need salad. And protein. And foods with vitamins. And don't drink soda or sugary drinks at every meal. Okay, maybe breakfast.
6) Do talk in class. Tell your professors what you think. If they don't like that you're a Christian, too bad. Everyone else had their opinion, your's is just as valid. Be heard.
7) Meet people. This helps.
8) Don't feel bad if you think there is no way to survive with your roommates. Try it for a while, and if it totally won't work, don't feel guilty about moving out.
9) For those currently with dial-up, appreciate the high-speed internet the whole time you're at college. DON'T, however, try to stay an extra year just for this high-speed internet.
10) Above all, remember that God put you on your campus for a purpose, and your job is to live by that purpose. If you don't know what it is, ask Him. If you don't know how to fulfill it, look in the Bible.
