Can someone tell me what date 10th Tishri AD26 fell on?

Can you convert it over to our gregorian calendar please?

Many thanks.

(Mod, if wrong forum please move)

Tim should be able to do this. I did hear somewhere that accurately calculating dates earlier that 35 or 36 AD is a little tricky.

You're on to something. Care to clue me in? :-D Are you attempting to calculate the birth of Jesus?... or perhaps, His return? 8-)

No, please ignore last post. (my odd sense of humour :) ) My query actually relates to the year of Jubilee. I have reason to believe that the 49 year cycle fell on the same year as John baptised our Lord. I'm looking for supporting evidence relating to some of my timelines.

Count off seven sabbaths of yearsâ€â€seven times seven yearsâ€â€so that the seven sabbaths of years amount to a period of forty-nine years. Then have the trumpet sounded everywhere on the tenth day of the seventh month; on the Day of Atonement sound the trumpet throughout your land.
Leviticus 25:8-9

I know its been awhile since this question was asked, but why not use a Jewish calendar in conjunction with an astronomy program to check the moon's phase? The day of the Jewish month is simply the age of the moon, give or take a day. So the 10th of the month is waxing gibbous moon. So whatever date someone spits at you, the moon better be in that phase. Also, the Day of Atonement could not fall on a Friday or Sunday so as not to compete with the weekly Sabbath, but it could fall on a Saturday with the weekly Sabbath. Therefore some minor tweeks had to be used in the calendar.

Using this method, you could probably tell within a day or two. My results (if you have to know) was Saturday October 10, 26AD. That would be using the Julian calendar since the Gregorian was not in existence then. However, if it was, I think the difference would only be a day or two in the date. The ten day error was the compound of errors from Christ's time until then in the 1600's. In other words, the Gregorian calendar adjusted to keep in step with the seasons back then which agreed. That's why the "orthodox Christmas" falls two weeks later. They still use the Julian calendar.

Thanks Tim,

Something I did find googling around was Sir Robert Anderson’s book, ‘Messiah the Prince.’ For whatever else one might think of his system of prophecy, he did go to some trouble to find the dates of the full moon in the months of Nisan (Mar/Apr) His finding are recorded as follows, but how to extrapolate that info from 14th Nisan (Passover) to 10th Tishri (Atonement) Im not quite sure.

  • A.D. 22 ... 5th April
    23 ... 25th March
    24 ... 12th April
    25 ... 1st April
    26 ... 21st March
    27 ... 9th April
    28 ... 29th March
    29 ... 17th April
    30 ... 6th April
    31 ... 27th March
    32 ... 14th April
    33 ... 3rd April
    34 ... 23rd March
    35 ... 11th April
    36 ... 30th March
    37 ... 18th April

Yes, there was a full moon on the 21st of March 26AD according to my astronomy program. Therefore, the date I gave probably is correct given the phase of the moon. On thing, however. If we consider March the first month, then the seventh is September which is a month earlier than I gave. I am aware of that, but I seem to think that the Day of Atonement occurring then was too early and they probably pushed Passover that year a month later (April). That being said, this is why nobody can be absolutely certain. The Jewish calendar algorithm is based on rules that simulate the sighting of the moon and an astronomy program will confirm that. But due to erratic adding of "leap months", I guess there is the possibility of being a month off every now and then.

I have noticed that bishop James Ussher believes that John the Baptist began preaching in the desert on Atonement day. (10 Tishri) It makes sense if we think of his ministry as a 'trumpet.' I also have reason to think that Jesus was baptized on the 25th October AD26. However I cant prove it from Luke 3:1 and I am trying to see if there are other evidences to accurately determine the date of his baptism.

Ah well, as my wife says, "God knows, but he won't tell."
