On another thread, friend Ryan and I were discussing the role of the law.
We both seemed to think that it might be appropriate to start another thread since we had seemed to stray somewhat from the topic of the other thread.
Anyway, I do like Augustus Toplady's hymn, which says:
'The terrors of law and of God with me can have nothing to do;
My Savior’s obedience and blood hide all my transgressions from view.'
Toplady was a strong Calvinist, yet he didn't seem to be wanting to put people back under the law.
Paul to the Romans says that it's grace that reigns through righteousness (Romans 5.21). Sinclair B Ferguson, who, again, has a reputation as a strong Calvinist, makes much of this precious act in one of his books.
