With Valentine's Day coming up, I wanted to let anyone know who needs to know: Valentine's Day isn't worth shedding a tear over.

I know some people really enjoy it as a commercial holiday - tailored to "sweethearts" and "romance" - and even in churches, there are "Sweetheart Banquets" and events that pair couples up - and alienate those who are not in a relationship.

There are various histories of Saint Valentine, none of them very clear - but it is clear that today, the name has been used to promote "romance" for the sake of retail sales. If I owned a Hallmark store, I'd be excited. ;) But I spent my teen years with a single mom in the church, and I've witnessed the fact that Valentine's Day can be a very painful holiday for many.

If Valentine's Day is supposed to be about love, a thoughtful note and/or gift as a pick-me-up may be needed and appreciated most by someone who is not your "sweetheart" - maybe just a friend in need. And it can be a very important recourse for people susceptible to feeling brokenhearted; giving to others is the best way to realize healing.

This will be my first Valentines day with my beloved, Caroline, and I'll be honest. I'm looking foward to it. For years I was one of the first guys to wish everyone a Happy Single's Awareness day. Last year, I figured I'd take a new approach and not focus on my singleness, but how God understood how I felt and that He had a plan better than I could understand.

I'd go into the details of the event directly follwoing last Valentines day, but I'm saving that for another post further down the line. I can say that as those who are single are reminded of that by our culture tomorrow, those of us who know the Lord are blessed to have a friend who know the ultimate feeling of lonliness. I would encourage those who struggle with tomorrow's holiday to keep in mind that God is still there to talk to and share your heart with.

Now that's cute! :lol

:amen

And I am interested in hearing what happened after your last Valentine's Day, Blazin' Bones, because the other thing you shared, about knowing God had a better plan than you understood, is what we all need to trust in, no matter our circumstances.

I'll admit I'm feeling really down about the whole thing. Yes, I'm definitely being a negative nelly today.

But it made me happy to make Valentine cards for my daughter's class last night and I gave out the rest of the chocolate and cards here at work. Now my tummy hurts.

So I think tomorrow I'm going to take my daughter for some Valentine's Day lunch and ice cream. I've never celebrated it with her so it'll be fun.

But you know what every woman should experience for Valentine's Day? Hot wings. Just keep it simple, chill out at home and eat some hot wings.

There you go, Raquel! :D

I do think Valentine's Day is a really fun day for children. When my kids were little, I always helped them make Valentines that they mailed to their grandparents. I would make one for each of them and put it on their pillows Valentine's Day morning, along with some candy. For people who don't have children, I'm sure they have children in their lives that would really appreciate the thoughtful attention - an excuse for candy! ;)

I love Valentines Day with my big ole' Bear. He's such a sweetie, you'd never know it by lookig at him. He's big 6'4" 290 lbs. Long black hair, and full beard, big biker dude. Looks like he walked out of hell and chew you up and spit you out for the fun of it, very intimidating presence. Love it in crowds, he's like Mose's parting the sea of "crowd traffic". I just shove my hand in that back pocket of his, and let him lead the way....he's so intimidating people just part and move away from him. Love it at biker swapmeets!

But anyway he's so cute, he comes in this morning with a huge bag of Bon Bon's, and a DVD of "Tin Man". A new version of the Wizard of OZ. Has anyone seen it? It's pretty good, but anyway I could have fell out, how he knew I don't know, but the man is good at knowing what my heart desires without ever saying a word. But because he has to work he was a day early to make sure I had my valentines on that day and I could enjoy it. He's so sweet....that big ole' teddy bear that tries so hard to make people believe he's a grizzly. But to me he's this sweet cuddlely big ole teddy bear with attitude.

May your Valentines Day be bless with your loveone! :kissing :adore :twolove :love2 :muchlove
