I noticed that there are alot of wasps around here and they congregate over by the well pump.Why is that?

the vibrations and wasps also build nests underground. I should know, that is what stung me last time. I hate those things.
 
You mean they build nests by the water well?
 
To determine whether the wasps have built their nest close to the well pump: Put a bowl of fresh water in a location some yards from the pump. Keep an eye on whether the wasps will drink the water where you placed it, then follow visually where they fly off to. If they head to the pump area, then you know they have a nest located there.
