America...as well as the world appears to be being conditioned for the white horse as well as the mark. Globalism.

I could write a book about what is wrong with America, but everything is just the by-product of one sin: the Love of Money, which is the root of evil. It is corrosive. It is addictive. It changes people.

Every day, I deal with this as I try to navigate my life. I was overdrawn at the bank by $5. I got a $35 fee for this. I asked the banker if they could make an exception and she said, "Listen lady this is how we make our money." That kind of says it all. Behind all corruption is money. In particular Americans worship the idea of making a profit, so they look the other way even when someone is making a profit off them.

Enough venting. Let's pray for a brighter tomorrow.

Why complain about the overdraft fees? You should have known that an overdraft would result in fees being applied and therefore expected it. You expect to be able to borrow money from the bank without question or cost. Are you sure you don't love money as much as the bank? There are costs involved with an overdraft. Whether or not they add up to the $35.00 is unknown to me but I'm sure part of the reason for the amount charged is to discourage customers from over drawing their account. In reality it is illegal to overdraft your account so you could technically be charged with a crime.

People like to play the victim. I remember a while back a member of the outdoor website that I moderate started a discussion about how he got caught with too many fish by the conservation officer. Reading what he wrote you'd think he was the victim and the CO was in the wrong for writing the citation. He knew the law and yet he violated the law. He was no victim.

You must be a banker, so I defer to you. I specifically asked the bank to not allow me to go over my limit. They ignored me and let me go over. At first they said, "We thought we were doing you a favor." Eventually, they admitted that this is how they make their money, so they are going to give me overdraft protection whether I wanted it or not. So I changed banks and they honor their promise to reject all purchases that go over my limit. You are right. I love money just like everyone else. But I do not spend in on myself. I live in a room with a bathroom down the hall and no shower. I give the rest of my income to charity. All my friends think I am codependent, but I don't care. It feels good to feed the poor. I am not rich but God sends me money when I need it. He paid the over-limit fee!

I studied history in college. Jamestown started as a commune. They almost starved to death when they were asked to share food with their neighbors. But when the leader said start earning money just for yourself, everyone got busy. God loves the rich and he loves the poor, but he is especially fond of those that share.

We all love money. Even the people who say they hate it. What you have to learn early is be judicious with money. I don't mean stingy either. For example you can be generous occasionally to others but more prudent on yourself. We need to respect money and not worship the things they can buy, like status, power and addictions.

I am not a banker but like you, I have to follow the rules of the contract I signed with my bank when I accepted the checking account. I'm assuming you are speaking about a checking account.

You are still playing the victim. You say you specifically told them not to allow you to overdraft. Once you write a check and use it to make a purchase, your bank won't know about it until the next day or it might be a day or two later after it has been deposited in the business' bank and then routed back to your bank. How can the bank possibly stop you from writing that bad check? Once they receive the deposit it's already done.

Ultimately it is your responsibility to manage your account. If you make an error in your math or you just purposely write a bad check, the onus is on you, not the bank. If the bank didn't return the check to the place where you made your purchase you were very lucky because they too would most likely charge a fee for the bad check because they got charged at their bank for cashing it. They will pass those costs and additional processing fees to you. Some places around here charge as much as $50.00 for NSF checks and if you're lucky they don't press charges. So if the check was not returned to where you wrote it, you should be very grateful as the bank did in fact do you a favor.

Accounts with overdraft protection is a good idea if you are one that struggles with managing your available balance. It protects you from all those additional fees and/or criminal charges but it's not free. When you use the feature there are fees and/or interest involved.
