As a Christian,
Should we consider our fleshly birth more reason to celebrate, or our spiritual rebirth?

How many people can recall the exact date they were spiritually reborn? I can't. I've been on this journey for quite some time now and there are times when I still wonder if...

I don't believe God really cares whether we celebrate our birthdays or not. I don't know of anything in scripture that forbids it. (but I could be wrong)

.

4afaithfulone, this is more in line with The Lounge so i will move it... It takes us all a while to catch on to this stuff... :)

The Lounge is more in line with light hearted conversations or gentle :lol debate...

I guess celebrating your birthday is just something our society does. Sometimes I think things like that are just meant to give us something to look forward to, a break from the monotony and daily grind. (But then celebrating birthdays is something kids tend to look forward to moreso than adults.)

Well, God does says that the angels shout when a sinner repents and is saved and Jesus said "We must be born again". Seems like something to celebrate to me!
Well then, which one do you think is more important to God for He is the One we must please?
As for you wondering about IF....
if you want to be sure, do this with all your heart:
Luke 11:14
13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
KJV
Rom 8:15-16
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: KJV

Be blessed and have Faith in God to do the work as you offering yourself as His pile of clay to make a master piece !

1 Samuel 16....(NKJV)
7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

God looks at the intent, not necessarily the action.

I do celebrate my families b-days with a card or a present, yet I always try to remind them that God is the reason they are here, for children are a gift from God. However I do not go to a big bash party for anyone's B- day as if to celebrate them.

Job's children always celebrated their Day with drunkenness and Job always feared that they would offend God so he was forever making sacrifices for them, instead of teaching them not to offend God in this way. And this cost them, because the thing we fear, shall come upon us!

Mark 6:21 And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee;
22 And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.
23 And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.
24 And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.
KJV
Job 1:4 And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.
5 And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.
KJV
So it does seem that celebrating the birth of our sinful nature is not really top on God's list for us to do. But as for our spiritual re-birth in repentance of our sinful flesh it says:
Luke 15:10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
KJV

I am not judging anyone, just bringing a little thought of reverence for the things of God, to exalt over our traditions of man. After all, we are not of this world... right?

I haven't had an actual birthday party since I was a kid. Despite my mom having it turned into an educational thing by taking me to a museum or something (not that I dislike it), I find celebrating my birthday, for me, is just an excuse to forget about my responsibilities and do whatever I feel like. (Within reason, I wouldn't do something stupid or anything.)

Any more questions?

Hey, as long as I get a present who cares?
We do get spiritual gifts, from our Father when we ask. Not just only on certain days, and they are worth far more anyway for God says that His Wisdom is better than rubies, silver or gold.
Before I knew God, I used to say that if I had 3 wishes, all I would need is 1. For my 1 wish would be for unlimited wishes! Yet now I understand that not everything we may wish for (becareful what you wish for you may get it!) is for our future good. So now my hope is: To be found worthy of the undying favor of God so that I am always with in His will for there is much peace, health and prosperity in His presence.
Prov 8:10-22
10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.
11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.
12 I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.
13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.
14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.
15 By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.
16 By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth.
17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.
18 Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.
19 My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.
20 I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:
21 That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.
22 The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.

That's cool.
As long as they don't break after only playing with them a couple of times.

I have had one birthday party that I can remember given to me by my children a few years ago, but it was more of a pizza party. I don't care to celebrate my birthday and try to avoid bringing the day into mention it if possible. My children mean well, but sad to say they have not received Christ. My fault because I did not know Christ when they were small and at home. While they are good people as man goes, they don't really want anything to do with hearing God's Word much, but sometimes they will. I too was like them at one time.. blind, but now I see!
