Most don't I believe know why Jesus spoke in parables . And this one is like the rest of the parables, FUTURE .

1) In v6 a certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard . The fig tree is Israel , pure and simple .

2) But He has other , maybe , tree is His vineyard ?

3) The man is God the Father and finds NO fruit .

4) For 2000 yrs Israel has produced NO fruit .

5) v7 The Father speaks to the dresser His Son , the Lord Jesus Christ . The Father says to Him , these 3 years ( Jesus ministry ) and I have NOT found any fruit ,

6) So cut it down , why let it take up space in my vineyard ?

7) The Lord Jesus Christ says to the Father ,,,,,, Lord let it alone this year ALSO

8) v8 AND let me dig around about it and FERTILIZER IT

9) v9 , and if it bear fruit well ,,, and if not , then AFTER that thou shalt cut it down .

10) Jesus ministry represents the 4 years alloted, and was killed approximate 4 into his ministry

11) There are many who say that Israel was NOT set aside , BUT Luke 13 says otherwise . And in Acts 28:28 and in 1 Cor 13 say so also . And Israel was cut down and God has not dealth with Israel for 2000 years .

I guess that's if you believe Israel are merely the Jews. If you believe as I do, the Jews are mostly from the tribes Judah and Benjamin only. The rest of Israel never historically returned to the land of Israel. As a matter of fact, the dispersed of Israel became the Gentiles and for the most part accepted the gospel, but Judah (the Jews) did not. This is symbolized by ONE disciple rejecting Jesus, who was named the same "Judas" of all names, and the rest carried on the message. Then the non-Israelite Gentiles were to be graphed in to the olive tree to replace "some" (the Jews) which were cut off (i.e. they were branches that did not bear fruit in another parable but has the same idea as the one you are mentioning here). It was later revealed to Paul that the non-Israelite Gentiles would be co-inheritors with the Israelites.

Hi TIM , my computer is having a hard time with this web site . The olive tree is a separate issue and will , in the future have a post on Rom 11 , a very much mis-understood passage , concerning the Body of Christ , Gentiles and Israel and who is really grafted in . later , dan p
