What does it mean!?!? Facts and Opinions! Just be sure to source your info (i.e. Merriam-Webster, I am a fluent Greek Speaker, My Brazilian godmother, ect.).

Important question - one that I am confident is asked because of statements by Jesus about "fufilling the law".

It is critical to understand that something can be "fulfilled" and also "abolished" at the same time.

Suppose I am travelling from New York to Paris on a plane. The purpose of my travel is "fulfilled" when I arrive in Paris. Do I keep traveling? Of course not! - my travel is effectively "abolished" once its goal has been fulfilled.

Jesus "fulfills" the Law of Moses in this sense, I suggest. In "fufilling" it, He effectively declares its time of application to have come to an end.

{17} "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. Matthew 5:17 (NASB)

fulfil US, fulfill [fʊlˈfɪl]vb -fils US, -fills -filling, -filled (tr)1. to bring about the completion or achievement of (a desire, promise, etc.)
2. to carry out or execute (a request, etc.)
3. to conform with or satisfy (regulations, demands, etc.)
4. to finish or reach the end of (he fulfilled his prison sentence)

a·bol·ish (-blsh)
tr.v. a·bol·ished, a·bol·ish·ing, a·bol·ish·es
1. To do away with; annul.
2. To destroy completely.

According to these definitions, Drew is correct: the Law was done away with when Christ fulfilled it, as Paul writes:

{23} But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed. {24} Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. {25} But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. Galatians 3:23-25 (NASB)

.
Law is fulfilled in two aspects: when the citizen either obeys it and/or when the State punishes him for breaking it. In that respect, Christ fulfilled the law of God by accepting the punishment for a man's breaking it.

†. Deut 27:26 . . Cursed is the man who does not uphold the words of this law by carrying them out.

†. Gal 3:10 . . For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

†. Gal 3:13 . . Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us; for it is written: Cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree
