What is meant by born again? We have been doing a work unto the saying of being born again, and found that John 3:5 goes with Ephesians 5:26, 27.

Born of water means of water, most of the time it's when you're a baby. Born again means born of spirit later in life, having faith and believing and confessing that Jesus is Lord our Savior. Romans 10:9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Born again has nothing to do with water baptism, it's only by faith. I believe Ephesians 5:26-27 is speaking about cleanliness and purification. I believe the term water in this instance means cleanliness and purification. Notice it says washing of water with the word. It's not speaking of salvation, just cleanliness and purification. Born again means to be born of spirit, the Holy Spirit. John 3:5 is speaking of salvation and Ephesians 5:26-27 is speaking about cleanliness and purification.

I'm having a little trouble relating the Eph verses to the OP topic. Going to need some help here. I see the instructions to the church as a body?

I am in agreement with urk about John 3:15.

In many scriptures I see water representing the Holy Spirit, both in the OT and the NT.

Revelation 22:1 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. Sometimes water can symbolize spirituality in scripture, the Holy Spirit is the water of life that flows within us, because God is that beautiful.

:amen

I will second this insight. :thumbsup

Born again:

"6 Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you mightily, and you shall prophesy with them and be changed into another man." (1 Samuel 10:6 NASB)

By the Spirit of God we become new creations, new people who are growing up into this now:

"...love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control..." (Galatians 5:22-23 NASB)

Instead of what we were before:

"...immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing..." (Galatians 5:19-21 NASB)

When Moses brought the people out of Egypt the reckoning of time started all over for them:

"Now the Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, 2 “This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you. " (Exodus 12:1-2 NASB)

I don't know of a born again Christian who doesn't have this same dividing line of time in their heart and mind between the end of their old life and the beginning of their new life in Christ. It's like life started all over again. It becomes a point of reference by which all other things are referenced. It's no accident that coming to Christ is referred to as being 'born again', or anew and afresh, for that is surely what happened when we believed and the Spirit of God came into us and birthed us into a new kingdom and a new life.

"16 Therefore from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh... 17 ...if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. " (2 Corinthians 5:16-17 NASB)

Yes...Amen! the washing of the water with the Word...==the regeneration...being born of the Holy Spirit.

Blessings...
