Need advices,counsels and helps.
I was born when my mother and father are not married. Since from the beginning, even from when I started entering school, I use my father's surname. I really do not have a birth certificate until now, they just made it my surname without law's consent. I think,at that time when I was born, it's unlawful to use it because they are not married(I'm not sure if it is still even until now). I should use my mother's surname. But then, I think, my paternal family insisted to using their surname at that time just I was recently born. And I also discovered that my existing baptismal certificate that has their surname used, was tampered. My mother and my father are not anymore in relation now, but I'm still using my father's surname. I'm cared for by the side of my grandfather( mother's side). He is the one who cared for me and provided me for food, school, etc. I spent and was cared almost all the time of my life by/with him. He is the one who contributed great for me more than my father( I'm not living with my father, but sometimes I went to his house away from us to visit).
Now, my birth certificate is required of me. I do not know yet what's the judgment of law about my situation of what surname will I legally use. Thinking logically,in my opinion, it is right to use my mother's surname because my parents are not married and I was cared by my grandfather and grandmother which are from my mother's side. For now, I will leave the decision of what is proper in our law.
But what if in case I were to choose my own surname?
In this name I have ...known or is known by God....and unintentionally I have come across at this passage of the Bible---"17 Nevertheless, each one should retain the place in life that the Lord assigned to him and to which God has called him. This is the rule I lay down in all the churches. 18 Was a man already circumcised when he was called? He should not become uncircumcised. Was a man uncircumcised when he was called? He should not be circumcised. 19 Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Keeping God’s commands is what counts. 20 Each one should remain in the situation which he was in when God called him. 21 Were you a slave when you were called? Don’t let it trouble you—although if you can gain your freedom, do so. 22 For he who was a slave when he was called by the Lord is the Lord’s freedman; similarly, he who was a free man when he was called is Christ’s slave. 23 You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men. 24 Brothers, each man, as responsible to God, should remain in the situation God called him to."-- I Corinthians 7:17-24.
I am hesitant of the meaning of this passage in connection to my problem. I am not sure if the surname is included in this what the Apostle Paul called 'situation' or 'state'. What do you think should be my choice if I were to choose my own surname? I know if that would be the case, the decision is left on me. But for now, I want to ask your opinions supported with reasons with or without resources from the Bible or from human law itself. By the way, just in case you will ask, I am living in the Philippines. And I am just a teenager,15 years old, not very intelligent(so I would ask not to make your responses not too hard to be understood). Hoping for responses.
May God bless you
