Hebrews 12:2 "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."

There is a wonderful sermon/personal study on Jesus being our High Priest by Dr. John Piper that has knocked my socks off. :lol Here is is....http://www.desiringgod.org/messages/draw-near-to-the-throne-of-grace-with-confidence. My Son Skip testifies to the fact that God healed the depression and despair that was on him as the result of the stroke that crippled him. He said that on the fourth reading & prayerfully studying it, he was healed. All glory to God.

This is the back drop of my reason to study the book of Hebrews and to prayerfully study Dr. Piper's writing today. I must say, I am experiencing a very very close communion with the presence of the Holy Spirit as I continue to study this work of Piper. So far, I have studied it three times and am on my fourth. I have found that there is great food for the hungry heart here, and living water for the thirsty. Draw up to the Lord's table my friends and drink and eat this heavenly meal, go back for seconds, thirds and so on.

I'd like to share with you, my friends, what's going thru my heart/mind as I've been studying Piper's words and Hebrews Hebrews 4:14–5:3.

First of all, I'm pretending that I'm one of Jesus' students observing Jesus' last words here on earth....Acts 1:9 "And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight."....This is what Hebrews says about that....Hebrews 4:14 "Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession."

Now, Jesus was just with us, and we understood that because He fulfilled all of the Old Covenant Laws and was the fulfillment of them, He became our Great High Priest. The KJV doesn't give justice to verse 14 because it only says that Jesus "is passed into the heavens" where as the ESV says, "passed through the heavens."

O my!! Can you just imagine the excitement in the recovering heart of Jesus Who just three days ago had to endure such excruciating beating and torture of the cross. That is behind Him now, and the realization of what He came to do was in it's beginning stages of reality. It's JOY folks!! Can you imagine? Jesus' joy was to become my/our final sacrifice for original sin thru Adam, and all my personal sins and yours. Jesus' joy was to set us free from the bondage of sin and set us free to become children of His Father.

O wow!! As Jesus was passing up thru the clouds and on toward where His Father was waiting for Him, I think that the joy that Jesus was experiencing was unlike anything that we've even known. Just the joy of reunion with His Father as He was before coming to the earth was part of the excitement. I can't really explain what's in my heart as I try and think about that scene of Jesus leaving the earth and His ministry there, and embarking on His new ministry of intercession for us as He is seated next to His Father.

I wonder how it must have felt when He finally sat down next to His Father. Wow, just the holy holy warm greeting from Father to Son. O the embrace!! I can only imagine. Talk about welcome home my good and faithful Servant. That gives new meaning to me.

Well, I've tried to relate the wonder that's in my heart over these few Scriptures. We have a High Priest!! And you know the good part? He loves you and me. He also intercedes for us, how could we ever forget that? WE WON'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could actually feel your excitement.
Will be reading your link in the morning.
I've often thought of this BTW.
It's like childbirth...
We endure the pain for the joy set before us.

Wonderful Chopper, just wonderful. I am also in joy hearing your son is well.

Dr. Piper is a favorite with me. I loved his sermon on suffering.

Thank you my dear friend Wondering for those encouraging words. I was hoping that my journey with the Holy Spirit might shine thru many of the words that He inspired me to write. All glory to God for His indescribable gift of our Great High Priest, Jesus the Son of God.

Thank you my new friend Pegasus for your encouragement, that means a lot to me because it shows me that the Holy Spirit still uses this old Country Preacher to touch the hearts of His blessed Children. Also thank you for Pipers message on suffering. I shall read it after I finish here.

Thank you for the kind words about my Son Skip. He and I are rejoicing for setting him free of depression and despair. All glory to God in Jesus His Son.

I forgot to do this when I first posted this thread. I have written this in memory of Reba's Dad. He was a great "old school Preacher" He wasn't afraid to take a stand for holiness. Street preaching was in his blood. He, Reba, and family were fools for Jesus and go out on the streets and share the good news about the forgiveness of sins thru Jesus Christ.

The reason I say "fool for Jesus" is because I've done the same and folk look at you like you belong on the funny farm. As I think about what I wrote, Reba's Dad came to my mind several times. It's as if he was prompting me to write some things. So, in respect and honor, I dedicate this thread to a great old Preacher of a past generation. Beautiful are the feet of those who preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. GLORY!!

Hebrews 7:21 KJV
For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)
22 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

Revelation 13:8 KJV
And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Rev. 13:8 deals with unbelievers, right?

The scripture quote was used for the (Lamb slain from the foundation of the world).

Jesus and his priesthood (IMHO) started not from birth or life or time but unto studying the likeness of Melchizedek.

The Acts 10 vision to Peter, and the declaration of clean; was needed to break the historical Law.

Acts 10:34 KJV
Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons
35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

And the fear of God might just come from:
Romans 1:19-20

What works with Jewish persons may not work with Gentiles. (Paul to Gentiles and Peter to Jews)

All must be saved through Jesus Christ, but are we to think our way is the only way.

Rednecks think swamp doctrine is the only doctrine, but is it?
