Then shall they know, I am The Lord. For the word of the wisest among them shall fail, and the knowledge of the most learned among them shall be accounted as dung, when calamity upon calamity breaks out upon every nation... For I AM HE, God who formed it!"

Why is 'god' phrasing this as a "prophetic utterance" 4 days after 'he' did it?

I noticed that too. I thought prophecies were supposed to come before the event. Also, there's something about God dictating letters to people that just doesn't sound right to me.

Assuming that the OP was "serious" (and I have my doubts about this), I would agree that the OP was very inappropriate. We know that when Adam fell, creation itself (not just human beings) were cursed. And in a physical world that is cursed, bad things like earthquakes will happen. I think the following teaching from Jesus captures the more appropriate way to think about events such as the Japan earthquake:

As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth. 2And His disciples asked Him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?"
3Jesus answered, "It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him.

I don't think earthquakes happen so God can be glorified, but I DO like your way of looking at it, Drew.
