Where did the Pope go when he died..

Pope Benedict XVI was buried in a tomb under St. Peter's Basilica under a ceremony by the current Pope Francis. when he died last month, so what happens when you die. Some say you go straight to heaven when you die if a saint and down to hell if a sinner, but what does the Bible say.

Ecclesiastes 9:5-6 "5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. 6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun."

Psalms 146:3-4 "3Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish."

Psalms115:17 "The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence."

James 4:14 "Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away."

It seems clear from the scripture that he has not gone anywhere but is still the grave and sleep until the resurrection and he is judged..
Daniel 2:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

HI reddogs

Well, it's my understanding that he is resting in the grave. Awaiting the sound of the trump. The call of the Lord, "Come up here!", will wake every sleeping child of God from their grave and they will ascend into the heavens along with those living on the earth at that time.

God bless,
Ted

Very true.. https://www.foxnews.com/world/pope-benedict-xvi-laid-rest-st-peters-basilica-private-ceremony
So he is in the grave with no thoughts or consciousness till the resurrection. No one goes to heaven nor purgatory as Catholics claim when they die, they simply go to the grave and await the resurrection as Christ said..
John 5:29
"And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation."

Jesus himself describes death when He spoke on it..

John 11:11-14 "These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well. Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead."

Matthew 9:24 "He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn."

Mark 5:39 "And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth."

Luke 8:52-53 "And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead."

In Jesus own words, death is described to be like a sleep, not floating around on a cloud or suffering purgatory or knowing anything or being aware as some mistakenly try to claim. Thats not what Christ or scripture show us.

Hi reddogs

I agree. However I do need to make one change to my answer. I said that he was waiting for the trump of Jesus to sound, but I'm not absolutely sure that the Pope is going to be in that number. Being the head honcho of a group that, I think, turns people away from the true worship of God, isn't likely to be a selling point to God, on the day of His judgment. So, it's possible that the Pope may stay in the grave until the second resurrection. The resurrection of the ungodly.

God bless,
Ted

I go with what Jesus said happens to the dead.
I figure... if anyone knows... it would be Jesus.

Lazarus and the rich man. Luke 16

Its a parable as you see as He begins "was a certain rich man", and it was a Hellenic idea the people had picked up as Josephus confirms it was widespread. Jesus told the parable of the rich man and Lazarus in the presence of His disciples and the Pharisees. He used this parable as a illustration because the Pharisees refused to believe anything that He said. They had seen many miracles and they still refused to believe He was the Messiah, so Jesus gave them a prophecy in the form of a parable, that they would not believed in verse 31..."31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead."

Not a parable. I don't think any of Jesus stories are anything but real life.
Why are you limiting Jesus?
If Jesus made up stories... maybe His story is made up too.
So if anyone could draw on all of human history to gather events to teach from it would be Jesus.

Ok, so are you going to the 'bossom of Abraham' for eternal life, of course not. No Christian is and none dont hold to that belief, it was a Hellenic idea that spread, and Christ used it to make a point.

Wrong... Please don't tell me what I believe.
Paradise, Bosom of Abraham, Death... for the believer.
Hell, Hades for the unbeliever.
Until Rev 20:13 when Death and Hell are thrown into the lake of fire.
This is what I believe so your statement that no Christian does believe it is wrong.

Well, thats what it leads too, so need to read the whole bible, precept upon precept; line upon line, here a little, and there a little. Need to see what it says...
“11 These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.
12 Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.
13 Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.
14 Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead. John 11:11-14.

"And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth." Luke 8:52

“For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and saw corruption” Acts 13:36.

“For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep” 1 Corinthians 11:30.

“Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. … But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep” 1 Corinthians 15:18, 20.

“Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed” 1 Corinthians 15:51.

“But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep [those who had died], lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus” 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14.

“[Jesus Christ] died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him” 1 Thessalonians 5:10.

And your point?
Hey maybe Lazarus had narcolepsy.
Falling asleep could be a euphemism.
Like passed away... gone to Belize.
These two ideas are not at odds.
But hey... you can trust in what others say... and I can trust in the words of Jesus.

You say you hear His words and yet..
Mark 5:39
And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.

Nice metaphor... expression... euphemism.
But when Jesus had time to tell the whole truth of what happens... He gave us the tale of Lazarus and the rich man.

As they say, a man convinced against his will....need to open your eyes and ears to what Gods Word reveals..
