Why would God predestinate anyone to heaven or to hell, when he had already sent his Son Jesus Christ into the world to reconcile us and the world unto himself?

"And all things are of God, who has reconciled us (humanity) to himself by Jesus Christ. God was in Christ, reconciling the WORLD unto himself" 2 Corinthians 5:18-19.

Jesus reconciled us and the whole world unto God by doing for us that which we cannot do for ourselves. Jesus is God's new Adam and the new representative of the human race.

"Therefore, as by the offense of one (Adam) judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one (Christ) THE FREE GIFT came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience (Adam) many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one (Christ) shall many be made righteous" Romans 5:18-19.

Jesus is God's reconciler, Romans 3:26. Jesus in our name and on our behalf, fulfilled all of the demands of God's Holy Law. Jesus in our name and on our behalf, has atoned for our sins and the sins of the whole world, 1 John 2:2. And has reconciled us and the world unto God. This is why no one needs to be predestinated.

God sees ALL THINGS in his Son Jesus Christ. As far as God is concerned Jesus has victoriously defeated sin, death and the devil and now sits in heaven as "The King of Kings and the Lord of Lords" Revelation 19:16. All that have faith in the doing and the dying of Jesus are complete "In Christ" Colossians 2:10.

Religion is man's attempt to reconcile himself to God by his works and obedience to the law. Calvinists believe that they have been reconciled unto God by being predestinated. which leaves the work and person of Jesus Christ out. If you believe that you have been predestinated by God, then you probably see no need to be reconciled to God by Jesus Christ.

Amen.

According to scripture God calls His People and Justifies them on the foundation of His predestination of them Rom 8:29-30

29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

Christ is the "open door of Reconciliation", but we still choose to go through it.

To answer your question, God must predestine because this fallen realm can so delude and tempt to sin even the Elect may choose not to go through the open door of Reconciliation.

Therefore, lest God lose even one of those He foreknew before creation loved Him, He predestines them to be conformed to His son = salvation:

28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
33 Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies.
34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written: "For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter."
37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,
39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom. 8:28-39 NKJ)

False statement no where in scripture

Those for whom Christ died, His death reconciled them to God even when they were enemies Rom 5:10

10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

Irrelevant question. As I was recently reminded, asking WHY God does something is asking "What Cause greater than God influences God?" This is a nonsensical question. God did it because He did it. His WILL is God's reason for doing anything.

We have God's WORD that He did it, so we can rest assured in the knowledge of two things:
  • God wanted it so.
  • It is good.
