God created man in His own image; male and female He created them; Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’” Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.” So she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men. Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

Let us never forget why we celebrate this season of Christmas!

Amen to that :thumbsup

There was once a young woman who was about to cook a leg of lamb. Before she did, she cut a piece off and put it separately in the pan next to the larger piece, and then put both in the oven. Her young daughter saw this and asked why she did it. The woman answered "That's the way my mother taught me to do it". So the girl went to her grandmother the next day and asked her "Grandma, why do you cut a piece of the leg of lamb before you cook it?" Her grandmother answered "That's the way my mother taught me to do it." So the girl goes to her great-grandmother and asks her "Why do you cut a piece of of a leg of lamb before you cook it?" The old lady answered "Because my oven was too small to fit it in in once piece."

So the daughters were not cutting a piece off of the lamb for the same reason as great-great grandma. How does this relate to the reason we celebrate Christmas?

So the daughters were not cutting a piece off of the lamb for the same reason as great-great grandma. How does this relate to the reason we celebrate Christmas?

It's the same reason. In fact, it's the same reason as for pretty much all traditions. It starts for one reason and generations later, people have forgotten the original reason and do it because "it's always been done that way" or "that's the way my parents did it and their parents before them, so that's the way I do it", or something similar. Just like people may think that cutting off a piece of a leg of lamb makes it better, when in fact the tradition started because of a small oven, many today think that dead evergreens have something to do with the birth of Christ, when in fact decorating homes with evergreens started out as a way to ward off evil spirits.
