Mozilla, the company that makes Firefox, hired a new chairman last month. Only 11 days later he was fired because he had supported Proposition 8. For those that don't remember, that was 6 years ago. Every news article I've read about it says the same thing. They all make it about gay rights. But what about rights such as freedom of conscience or freedom of speech? Don't those rights matter? Do gay rights trump all other rights? The gay community and their supporters boycotted Firefox and forced Mozilla to fire it's new chairman. I wonder what they would do if Christians and others who support traditional marriage would boycott Firefox for restricting the freedom of speech?

The gay community didnt start the whole boycott. The boycott came ro light on on reddit and went viral. I dont care about what the head of firefox thinks nor did I care about chic fillle. My pwrsonal stance is I juat dont get why all this has to be a big deal in the first place. Its a stupid piece of paper that makes a lot of legal proceading easier. It just happens to share a name with a certain religous ceremony.

I don't care about his views either. What I do care about is that his views were censored and there seems to be no public outcry about it. It was in the news not that long ago, and there was at least one thread about it here, that some states have been trying to pass or have passed laws allowing business owners to follow their religious convictions in their businesses. Examples were a baker who refused to bake a cake for a gay wedding and a photographer who refused to take pictures at one. In neither case were any gay person's rights violated. Both gay couples got someone else to do the job and went on with their weddings as planned. But the baker and the photographer were both sued. Their rights were violated. But all the public outcry surrounding it all was in favor of gays being able to force Christians to do their bidding. I see the same thing happening here. I'm in favor of tolerance, whether it be toward homosexuals, or anyone else, but tolerance that is only one-way isn't tolerance at all. It's oppression. Christians are being oppressed and forced to accept certain politically correct views, but receive no such tolerance in return. A Christian can't fire a homosexual because he's a homosexual, but a homosexual can fire a Christian because of his religion. That's what I care about.

  • I understand what you are saying about how you don't like the idea that the man was terminated by the board of director. The thing is that Moezilla isn't a government entity that has to give their ceo freedom of speech. They are a business and when members boycotted their services, they took a big enough hit that it made sense to let their CEO go. Does it suck that the guy lost his job? Yes, but I also remember Reddit, (who also broke the story and spread it all over the internet) Also has lengthy debates about the issue as well.
  • Yes, the news did report about the instances where people were sued. However I've come to take everything with a grain of salt. When I heard about the photographer and the baker I also heard several versions that they did yet didn't get sued, and they didn't outright refuse or they did. After Ahwile I just have no idea what is going on anymore. It all depended where I was looking at the story.
  • I'd like to point out that "the gays" don't go around suing everyone. Individuals have sued companies and people have been swung up in the whole controversies. I'd like you to know that us "the gays" are a very diverse group politically, culturally, religiously etc. We aren't a hive mind and trying to force everyone to do our bidding. Just like how not all Christians are the Westbero Baptist Church, not all of us "the Gays" are one singular hate group that are trying to force Christians to do whatever. I've been to a Gay Church and know of several Right wing LGBT groups. I'm aligned pretty close to a gay Libertarian group, and I also support the Pink Pistols a gay/lgbt Pro gun rights group. We are a pretty diverse group. There are also tons of divisions in gay life styles and all that but I'm not allowed to even bring that up here because it shatters the illusion that " The Gays" are all just this sex obsessed lifestyle with a left wing agenda.
  • Actually this site is pretty anti allowance of LGBT issues/discussion unless its about how its just a depraved lifestyle or sin or how to convert to being straight/ Christian.
  • The Opression angle is hard to argue considering that until 20 years ago a person could be sent to a mental hospital or even in some instances jailed or castrated for being Gay. Not to mention a lot of laws that were on the books that could ruin people's lives. Not to mention the states that had laws outlawing gay people to even get housing. There is a reason Gay districts exist, and it was originally because it was the only place many people could even live.
I understand your anger and feelings of oppression. I also hate hearing about some gay dude or lesbian, or activist making people's lives harder for small potatoes or because they need to use the homophobic card because they can't get their way. I truly do. I really don't care that Christians think homosexuality is a sin. Its not a big deal to me anymore. I am willing to accept and tolerate things I don't agree with for the sake of everyone getting along. As I mentioned I don't care about Hobby Lobby, or Chic Fille, or Moezilla, etc's political views.

Lets just learn to get along and drink a pint or two.

im not on mozzilla at present. i don't intend to use them.

Getting sued is not oppression. It only means someone thought someone's rights were violated and they filed a complaint. They now have the burden of proving their case in a court of law.

The question then is did they win their case and how, and did the defendant file a counter suit for the violation of the right to free speech and did they win that?

As for browsers I have used Chrome fire years and am very happy with it. I try IE once in a while to see if they have improved it but am usually disappointed. Lady week I tried FF again only to find they haven't improved that one either. So I'm staying with Chrome.

The Supreme Court refused to hear the photographer's case, thereby letting stand the New Mexico Supreme Court's ruling that Christians must implicitly support Gay marriage or else be punished. Standing on your beliefs and refusing to bake a cake or take pictures for a gay wedding is not an option, but apparently, firing someone for supporting traditional marriage is an option.

The U.S. Supreme Court Monday declined to hear Elane Photography v. Willock, the case of a photographer who was told by the New Mexico Supreme Court that she must, as “the price of citizenship,” use her creative talents to communicate a message with which she disagrees or suffer punishment.

I left firefox and i am trying to understand Chrome.. :confused2

I used Firefox before and I expect to keep using it. The way I figure it, if I'm going to stop using things because of the opinions of owners or chairmen of various companies, pretty soon there would be nothing left for me to use. If I wanted to, I could find something to object to with every software and hardware manufacturer, every food company and every clothing manufacturer there is, and then what would I do?

double standards bug me big time.... and a good part of me agrees with what you say TOG

that is why im not dogmatic on that as well what company doesn't?dont go to Disney, they supported gay rights, don't go to starbucs, etc

Some companys will support the rights of all some push and agenda ... Starbucks pushes and it seems firefox is pushing

For years now I have used Firefox and backed it up with Chrome but with this event I now use Chrome and back it with Firefox. There is the Homosexual Element anywhere we go but I will not support their aggressive, unholy, aganda.

Pretty much what I think. There are some instances in which I'd boycott, but if I were to boycott everything there wouldn't be much I could use.
Sometimes companies may support a number of very good causes, but also something I may not like. Just the way it goes.:shrug
