Did people take baths once a year in the 1700s?

In the 1700s, people only took baths like once a month and in an average lower class household there was only one tub to take a bath in and everyone used the same water. The Father went first, followed by any other older male reletives, then the wife and so on down to the kids. By the end the water was so dirty that you could barely see the baby in the tub, hence the warning, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I could not imagine living with them people. But you know, you can get so accustom to your own body odor to the point where you don't smell it.

interesting reading, I didn't see the old sage brush, store catalog, or boy scout trick.

It is called nose blind. If everyone else smells as bad as you do you get used to it.

The whole family using the same bath water and many times it would be 10 or more to a family back then.

I bet allergies were uncommon in those days.
Still happy I'm living today.

They used corn cobs to wipe themselves. And rags on sticks in Rome soaked in buckets of saltwater that everybody used. And at that time of the month women used rags or nothing at all. Oh Dear Jesus that must have been horrible.View attachment 4895

The disturbing new trend for 'cleansing reduction' which involves bathing just once a week

Is a daily shower too much for your skin?

http://health.howstuffworks.com/skin-care/daily/tips/daily-shower-skin1.htm

How often do you really need to shower?
Most people think showering once a day is the norm, but there are plenty of people who don't — and it might be healthier.

You just described my childhood, although there were only seven of us and we used the same towel too. I know one thing, being first to take a bath was the preferred option.

Those are the rags Jesus is talking about in this verse concerning our self righteousness Lewis.. kind a puts our good works in a different light doesn't it..

Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

The human body can do just fine cleaning itself off and we are obsessed with showering. However, I think once a year is a tad long. But showering/washing everyday does not necessarily hurt because I've been showering many years now and if it was unhealthy, I'd be sick and complaining like a lot of people do on forums with this ailment or that.

That said, I only shower daily for work, because I sweat a lot and don't like the feel. When I'm off from work the other half of the week, it may then be every other day or even up to 3 days and I don't smell, even without deodorant. Corncobs would not work with me, though. Of all the dark places I have a detachable hose to use and probably my mouth is dirtier than those places. :lol I'm a little fussy about that more than the rest of my body. (Like we needed to know that :hysterical)

How about a pressure washer

The concern is that when you shower or take a bath too often you are cleaning off the good bacteria on your skin which is healthy to have on there.
