In Lev. 19, almost adjacent to the reference to cutting for the dead is the prohibition of trimming the corners of beards. Do preachers shave? What I meant was, if one takes a phrase from the passage and tries to apply it now, irrespective of possible dispensational context, while ignoring what it says in the next verse: this is less than satisfactory and does no service to a weaker brother, either.

That's another good thought. So if there were a group of lawless people who all looked the same, let's say they stated "notching" their beards in a certain fashion, WHAT would you suggest to a brother who came here, on a Christian forum, for the sole purpose of encouraging other Christians to notch their beard in the exact same way?

Now, please, please do not hear me say this about you, because I've read your posts and learned from you and I am certainly not saying this about you and the promotion of faith based tats. Still, I do think your comment is a good point to consider especially as it takes us both out of familiar territory.

PS:

Tatoos are a big todo on the Forum these days.
Some for, some against.
And everyone has their reasons.
What do you say?
Most people use the scripture in Leviticus 19:28 to make their stand against tattoos, and others say that scripture is under the old law which is now done away with.
I have a tattoo which I got in my late 20's ..
FloatingAxeHead:

Yes, well, it's not unusual to find that quite a lot of Christians have them, is it?

Tattoos that have been gotten at some stage or other of their lives, and during varied times of their thinking.

Men and women.

Blessings.

hard rock? as in ccm or like stryper? can you explain that more. I don't mind the music of that style if its lyrics are ok ...
jasoncran: Good quality hard rock, with clear Christian lyrics, can be good.

Do you remember if the Stryper guys have tattoos also?

Blessings.

I understand that but did god save us to just make a Christian culture? I mean we can use the things of art to demonstrate the nature of god and so forth, and im not against th.e idea of a Christian culture but all to often the world influences the Christian. we have a Christian version of just about any secular idea these days

in general, I believe that all too often the contemporary Christian music label is all about the $$$ and not the Lord. not all of the musicians are bad.
jasoncran:

I'm not sure that tattoo artists make a lot of money, though. If they didn't really love the art, they wouldn't do it, I guess. Similarly some tattoo artists might be motivated by Christian art, maybe?

Blessings.

the problem with tattoos is like this. you wont be able to make money as a believer because most Christian who have tattoos wont be in large numbers to make it. ie clean tattooed location . look at any tattoo magazine and see what is shown and its look looking at porn. sorry but it is.

jasoncran: Well, I certainly don't have any time for real exposure nudity. tandemcpl made some good points, too.

People can wear swimwear while being inked, though. Principally it's like art on a canvas I guess.

it doesn't matter. since I live in a beach community. I cant imagine any Christian female who cant be a temptation to men who have lust issues with tattoos when they lift that shirt to show that tattoo of what not near the breast, or under the pants line.

Well, okay, you yourself must know what is problematic for you and it's always good to err on the cautious side as well, I guess. Fact is also, even Victorian women would wear for instance backless dresses, etc. for formal wear; and Victorian era women such as Jennie Jerome Churchill (Winston Churchill's mother) had a tattoo, as well.

farouk, that is strawman. lets be real here. I was young and In love with beautiful women. one of them I married. but I will tell you of one that didn't work out and well let say that she would tempt me. while that is unrelated to the point, if you are in love with a girl and not married and a virgin them male hormones are going to rage and you will want to look. its just natural , sheesh common sense!so if your girl goes and gets a tattoo of the indian river lagoon's manatee to make a statement about save the manatee as a tattoo on her abdomen. you will bet I would want to see that and well when she lifts the shirt to show you. viola the breasts are seen in the bra. oldest trick in the book. I used to do this. men its what we do! don't tell me you didn't either. im 40 and I aint dead. its wrong to lust but we will turn our heads at any attractive lady. if we didn't I don't think we would be alive.when you are single you have no one so you will also look and look more as you don't that check like a married does.i have a friend who reminds of my wife when she was younger and flirts with me all the time. she has tattoos. I try not to be rude to her or flirt. she works with me at the paper route. she is older then me and has tattoos. she also has a shirt of Marylyn Monroe with tats on her body and all over. arms, legs and the pants line. I saw her this morning. the WHOLE time I was thinking of you when she had that shirt on.

@jasoncran : Well I agree with you; what you describe sounds like it's over the top. And you know yourself, of course.

If a nice Christian lady (or guy, whoever) decides to get on a wrist, etc. a simple Christian fish <>< sign, however, I would find it hard to be critical.

Blessings.

yes but the sad thing here is that NOT all will do that. once you can get into tattoing for a living are you as business really going expect to make it only wrist.arms and leg tattoos? would you refuse to tattoo any where else. ie the back? the abdomen? of above the knees. I can see it now a local tattoo parlor ministry in the church.

I know what you mean; still, Christian men and women become doctors and nurses and I guess they are seeing people in varying states of undress pretty well all the time; I guess the difference is, if it's in a professional context.

But I would also say that if a Christian can't handle what being a doctor, nurse (even tattoo artist? :chin) entails, then they shouldn't do it.

Blessings.

@jasoncran : I know what you mean, and it's good to be careful even if a lady is being friendly or even too friendly. I guess you mean this person that you mention isn't a Christian?

I guess the best thing would be to be polite, keep her at a distance and pray for her conversion.

(I'll pray for her, too :pray .)

Blessings.

im 40 and I aint dead.

Lol, young man. There is something called becoming a eunuch for the kingdom. Not all are called there, it is good to consider the conscious of our brothers especially those weaker. This has been my point all along and it is the fulcrum that such judgments must be hung upon. The relationship of the stronger to the weaker.

Let Jesus be everything to us. Let us no longer consider the sacrifice made for the sake of our brothers, whom we are commanded to fervently love, as if this is not worthy or less worthy of our attentions than something that draws attention to us (even though it may also be used to point to God) for we are told to adorn ourselves with those things that comprise inner beauty, that we may sing forever to the Maker of heaven and Earth, that we may know and cause others to know that Faithful and True is the Name of the Lord.

We are looking to Him for shelter, and the fragile soul looks to see how we do this, who it is that we look toward, who it is that we sing our songs of love to. Is this just to God or is it shared with each other. May we have fidelity of Christ in our dealings with others! You are There, O Lord! In the valley of the shadows, You are faithful, God. Every season of my soul, You are there, with Your hand in mine, restoring me, to being whole, restoring us to wholehearted love shown and seen, that we may sing together.

His Love shall endure. Faithful and True is the Name of the Lord. What care I if a loved one of God shall write such things that may be seen in his heart in a more prominent manner? Love God, I say. Love the brethren as yourself. I know I heard that somewhere, as did all who come to HIM.

There is no other love like Jesus. He outshines the sun. We are to follow Him. To be known for our love, one for the other, to be seen to throw down all that which so easily besets us. No, we don't throw down each other but rather build each in our most holy Faith. It is He to whom we call, "Jesus, my redeemer." How may we, who are in need of redemption, suggest that in this way we are better or in that way we are worse than those whom He died for.

The fallacy of comparison, one to another, is missing the point. There is one plumbline. Only One.

Holy Spirit, we desire awakening.
For You and You alone awake my soul. Awake my soul to see, for the world You love, that Your will be done, Your will be done in me.

Draw each of us into your Presence and give us Power to become Sons of God. For this moment, for this hour. Awaken me.

I do not have tattoos and never will. I think our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and therefore we should not deface it. I also wonder what those tattoos will look like in 40 or 50 years. Pretty funny on an old man or woman. Well, maybe not a man, but certainly on a woman!

On the other hand, my ears are pierced. Maybe that is wrong too? I like to wear earrings that don't hurt my ears. And I can take them out for surgery, x-rays, etc.

And speaking of doctors, it is really a different thing to have a doctor look at you in order to help you or save your life, than a so-called "artist" to have access to private areas.

Or maybe I am just too old to be in this discussion? I guess I come from a time when no-one had tattoos. Interesting that my children never got any either. No roads are barred to them, which might be the case to those with excessive tattooing. Like it or not!

The thief comes only to steal. But He (Jesus) has come that they (we) may have life. And have it to the full. And if you see me sin? Not talking about that kind, not the kind that leads to death, but if you see me sin? What do you do? That same thing that I need to do when I see my brother sin. He's not stealing, not a thief, not murdering. We're not talking about that. What did John say? The one who confessed that all his prayers are answered because he asks according to the will of the Father. 1 John 5:15 prayer.

John 10:10 "I have come that they may have life."

This is what we shall do. We shall pray. We shall ask (for our brothers sake, just like we would for our own sake) and God shall give life.

You're not too old, youngster. He has come that we may have life!
