I'm not saying it shouldn't be included as "part of the word of God" or that it should be.

Why is that? Do you feel that we Christians are easily led astray? Should I have a supervisor over me, telling me which books are acceptable and which should be burnt before reading?
How do you tell which books are worth reading without first reading the books? Don't Christians have the Holy Spirit to guide them? Isn't He capable of sorting the good from the bad? But if I haven't read a book, how do I ask God whether it belongs in the burn pile or the keep pile? I'm not really a big fan of book burnings anyway. What did Henry Jones say to the Nazi Officer in the third Indiana Jones movie?
Is that you in your avatar?

Yeah, good thing we have the Holy Spirit for illumination, huh?

yes, in a manner/way of speaking. when Yhwh reveals the truth in and by and through Yeshua, it is a BIG SURPRISE and totally unexpected by those who consider themselves scholars (and usually rejected by the scholars - it would cost too much for them to accept the truth! ..... another reason Yhwh chose gladly to reveal the truth to babes ! even though He doesn't need any reason other than just wanting to ! :) )

I think the confusion from different translations stems from not translating them correctly at all but rather paraphrasing the words. The new version, the International Standard Version (ISV) will be different from the IPV (International Paraphrased Versions) in that, it is to be an actual translated rather than paraphrased version.
Every single translation has a certain amount of paraphrasing and translator bias. It is completely unavoidable.

Could it also be playing to their audience? It also seems there is money to be made producing new bibles; they even copyright them. :)

No, but the Harley is mine.
The guy on the bike works for the Harley Shop where I bought my bike. I thought that he looked enough like me to use the picture for my avatar. Since the picture was taken, I took off the back seat rest and I put on some leather saddle bags that my wife gave me for my birthday.

Why didn't you buy a real motorcycle? :thud

Yeah, well they should make a greater effort to be accurate. Their own lack of knowledge of the English language probably contributed to the inaccuracy of (whichever) translation. Thinking, I'll just say it this way. After all, it was Friday afternoon and he did want to get off early for his date. Plus greed, like brother Eugene said, and finally, for a certain amount of power.

It seems to me that there would be a huge responsibility to translate Gods word. I don't think that I would want that job and would turn it down. Unless God twisted my arm so to speak.

At any rate, the new ISV that is to be coming out is supposedly the most accurate translation to date, and great effort was made to be very accurate. I probably will not go buy one. I'm ok with my King Jimmy version and my Strongs, and prayer. But I applaud their efforts in this.

Yo

I'm sort of surprised there's not a bible translated in RAP for this generation. How can they possibly learn without a beat, dance, and truncated language? Yo man . . :shrug.

Anyone who would take that attitude to translating the bible into any language has no business doing so.

A lack of knowledge of the English language? Are you serious? You seem to know nothing of translating and all the difficulties involved that stem from the original languages, not a lack of knowledge of English. Being that translators are fluent in at least on biblical language, they probably excel at English. Please don't make such absurd accusations.

This is completely ridiculous and is a straw man.

Plus greed, like brother Eugene said, and finally, for a certain amount of power.
Greed or power may play a part with certain translations, although we shouldn't make such an assumption, but there could be many other legitimate reasons as well--increased scholarly work and knowledge in the original languages, increased historical knowledge, further finding and translating of manuscripts, etc.

Wow brother are you for real? Take a deep breath or something. You sound pretty upset over a casual discussion. I'm not even going to really respond to your post in that it'd probably just stir you up some more.

Wow. :thud

I am quite for real. Casual discussion or not, such claims as yours are serious. Translators give us the Word of God and one should not presume anything about motives.

Ok free. Anything you say buddy. Not agreeing with me is one thing, but to get on here and denigrate my view with a tone of hostility is...pretty sad brother. May the Lord bring peace to your heart...

Tone of hostility? A tone of seriousness. What is sad are your serious claims that you don't seem to think much of. I have peace already, thanks.

:hysterical Just kidding. I rode a 1949 Harley 74 all through high school. It took a good beating and kept going. I got into dirt bikes later.
Okay, I understand now. I thought that you were saying that since I had leather saddlebags instead of a trunk like a Goldwing, my motorcycle wasn't a "real" motorcycle.
I saw a guy pulling a trailer with his motorcycle. That isn't my style, and kind of defeats the purpose of riding, in my opinion.

It's because it's a sporty, isn't it? sportys are real, really they are. I'm not defensive or insecure, a sporty is just as good as a motorcycle, its not a chicks bike or anything, i'm a real man, really I am, ask my wife, she'll tell you, she doesn't like it when people pick on me because of my sporty :rollingpin

I read somewhere that in OT times they gathered together and the/a priest would read these books aloud for all to hear. the wording in Joshua 10:13 would make me think they heard the same words before when they must have been read out of Jasher. this verse implies everyone listening at the time had heard the same thing from the book of Jasher.

Then Moses wrote this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and to all the elders of Israel. And Moses commanded them, “At the end of every seven years, at the set time in the year of release, at the Feast of Booths, when all Israel comes to appear before the Lord your God at the place that he will choose, you shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing. Assemble the people, men, women, and little ones, and the sojourner within your towns, that they may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God, and be careful to do all the words of this law, and that their children, who have not known it, may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God, as long as you live in the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess.”
(Deut. 31:9-13 ESV)
Gideon hadn't started distributing pocket Torah scrolls so everybody could have his own, so they all came together once every seven years to hear it read. All of the Books of Moses were read during the 7 days of the Feast of Tabernacles. Later, when there were synagogues that had their own Torah scrolls, they would also hear portions of it read every week. That custom is referred to in Acts 15:21.
