I wonder how a person invents something like that. Were these people chemists or what?
Yes, chemists.
Osley was chemist and supplied the Grateful Dead, etc. in the California music scene in the 1960's.
Leary was a chemist.
England had it's share.
Strawberry Fields and Pink Floyd were names used for LSD before the bands and the songs.
Many others.

Interesting.

It really wasn't marijuana that was the drug of choice back then? It was LSD? Or both?

Did you ever watch the show "Breaking Bad"?

I never watched the show.
Marijuana was the drug of choice all the way.
The band The Association, their hit song "Along Comes Mary", is about marijuana.
Even the Beach Boys, 1964, "I Get Around", about dealing pot.

Really.....wow...it seems like all of society was on board with drug usage.

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.
No way, that is crazy.

I heard that the Yellow Submarine song has drug connotations, is that right?

Do you think all of this came from Britian? I mean there were a lot of bands from there during that period of time, right? It just seems that what happens over there, usually comes here.

The thing is Jesse, most people were singing along with these songs and they had no idea what they meant.
Only those that were "hip" ever understood at the time.

A lot of what you say is true.
Bands were creating music that went well with being high on LSD.

Like Pink Floyd? and Led Zepplin?

And if you played Stairway to Heaven backwards on a record player it had some cryptic meaning - I heard something about that, anyway.

before hippies there was beatniks I think there has always been a sub culture
All what I found was that they rejected society and encouraged self expression through art. Is that all they did? They were a bunch of artists?

opium dens were all over the place in the 1800s
I dont believe 'your generation' is any worst the the last and so on ... what is different is we see more of it because of the many means of communication today.

About 1982-3 our sen went in a burning building, found the toddler was putting out the fire when the fire department showed up.... tha same time a kid went into a school in Las Vagas ,, shot the teacher ans some others . johnny did not make the news but the bad kid did... How many more were there like Johnny that day?

I kinda think they drank strong coffee and smoked that funny stuff...
My aunt and her husband, I did not know them well, were jazz musicians in the 30's and 40's, and I was told they did drugs because of the scene they were part of.

People had reel to reel recorders back then.
It was easy to twist the tape and play a song backwards.

You're right. The media still does that today. The heroes are not discussed but the bad guys get all the glory.
I noticed it big time when recently that crazy dude went into the movie theater and shot people up, we knew a ton about him, but nothing of the victims.
