You can quote scripture from the gospels but that doesn't change the fact of God's grace that was revealed to Paul about the believer being secure in Christ eternally.

Jesus Christ is God’s grace to us.

Paul learned and taught us about grace from the Lord Jesus Christ.

For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. John 1:17

I wanted to start a thread that deals with the definition of biblical terms; words or phrases used in the Bible.

I believe this is a much needed study so when we are discussing biblical doctrine we all understand the word and terms that the Bible authors are using, which may have a different meaning in the culture and time they were living, as well as the language they were speaking.

I believe it’s important to allow the context as well help us to define these often misunderstood terms used in the scripture.

It would be His disciples, who would be be sent as Apotles, and be responsible for establishing Church doctrine forever. Culture does not change the truth of Church doctrine.

As Jesus said - teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you;

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Matthew 28:18-20

The first one is: Inherit the kingdom of God

Jesus used this phrase when teaching His disciples in His Olivet Discourse.

It refers to those who have their part, in the kingdom of God, on the Day of Judgement.

31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
Matthew 25:31-34
  • Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
Those on His left hand, who do not inherit the kingdom of God, will hear these words.

Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: Mathew 25:41

It’s very easy to understand from this context what inherit the kingdom means and when it takes place.

Paul used this term when writing to the Church. Here is one example.

19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21

  • those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Hi, this thread is going fast.

When reading the title two thoughts came to mind.
There are two Kingdoms.

Jesus came to set up His Kingdom here on earth.
He says so in Mathew 4:17
From that time Jesus began to preach and say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

Isaiah prophesied the above in
Isaiah 9:1-2
1But there will be no more gloom for her who was in anguish; in earlier times He treated the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali with contempt, but later on He shall make it glorious, by the way of the sea, on the other side of Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles.

2The people who walk in darkness
Will see a great light;
Those who live in a dark land,
The light will shine on them.

This is clearly speaking of Jesus, as is the rest Isaiah till verse 7.

Jesus did indeed come to set up an earthly Kingdom, which is invisible, and which pertains to HIS Chruch, His Body, the Body of Christ, and those who belong to it.
Mathew 5:3-10, the Beatitudes, shows us HOW to be a part of this invisible Kindgom.

3“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

5“Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.

6“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

7“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

8“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

9“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

10“Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

In Mathew chapters 5 to 7 He speaks many times of what the Kingdom is and how to be a part of it.

However, if we're speaking about INHERTING THE KINGDOM of GOD
then we must move on to the second meaning because something that is inherited is in the FUTURE and is not meant for now.

The Kingdom of God is the true Kingdom. We may want to call it heaven, or it could refer to the Kingdom on earth but after the end of all time. In either case, it is the Kingdom of God. The literal Kingdom.

part 1 of 2

part 2 of 2

Mathew 25:1-41 describes the Kingdom of God as something to come:

Parable of Ten Virgins

1“Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2“Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent. 3“For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, 4but the prudent took oil in flasks along with their lamps. 5“Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep.6“But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.7“Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. 8“The foolish said to the prudent, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9“But the prudent answered, ‘No, there will not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.’ 10“And while they were going away to make the purchase, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut. 11“Later the other virgins also came, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open up for us.’ 12“But he answered, ‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13“Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour.

The above speaks of the bridegroom coming for his bride, the Church.

Parable of the Talents

14“For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them. 15“To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey. 16“Immediately the one who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and gained five more talents. 17“In the same manner the one who had received the two talents gained two more. 18“But he who received the one talent went away, and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.

19“Now after a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them. 20“The one who had received the five talents came up and brought five more talents, saying, ‘Master, you entrusted five talents to me. See, I have gained five more talents.’ 21“His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’

22“Also the one who had received the two talents came up and said, ‘Master, you entrusted two talents to me. See, I have gained two more talents.’ 23“His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’

24“And the one also who had received the one talent came up and said, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you scattered no seed. 25‘And I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.’

26“But his master answered and said to him, ‘You wicked, lazy slave, you knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I scattered no seed.27‘Then you ought to have put my money in the bank, and on my arrival I would have received my money back with interest. 28‘Therefore take away the talent from him, and give it to the one who has the ten talents.’

29“For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away. 30“Throw out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

The owner is coming back. And He will be expecting fruit from those to whom He gave the possibility to grow and to belong to the eternal Kingdom.

The Judgment

31“But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. 32“All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; 33and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left.

34“Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35‘For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; 36naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’ 37“Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? 38‘And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? 39‘When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40“The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’

41“Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; 42for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink; 43I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’ 44“Then they themselves also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?’ 45“Then He will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ 46“These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

The judgement will come at the end of time.

Some will go away to eternal punishment,

and some will go to the eternal reward which Is The Kingdom of God, or

Heaven, or the New Jerusalem.

So there are two Kingdoms.

One for right now.

And one for the rest of eternity after our death.

Inherit the Kingdom of God is clearly the one that is future and to come to last for eternity.

Amen.

I appreciate your insight, and your thoughtful perspective of the scriptures.

I have seen some really awesome things come from you concerning biblical revelation.

However, I was referring to a specific statement you made from post # 41 which said -

to which I replied -

I'm not trying to be disrespectful, just wanting to know what context you are referring to concerning entering the kingdom of God.

I don't see the phrase entering the kingdom of God mentioned in any of the scriptures you quoted.

Here are my examples:

21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, 22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, “We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.” Acts 14:21-22

  • exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, “We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.”

A couple of things about this verse I would like to point out.

First of all, Paul exhorted these disciples of Jesus Christ that they must through many tribulations, enter the kingdom of God, which refers to some time in the future, since it is by these very tribulations, that they would experience throughout their life, are the means by which they will enter the kingdom of God.

Paul is plainly referring to that Day, when we stand before the Lord to be Judged according to our deeds, and hear one of two things from Him:

  1. ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
  2. ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:

Jesus this to His disciples.

And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire— Mark 9:47

  • It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire—

Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

I will leave you with John 17 for now. Jesus was praying for the disciples and the ones following that listened to them.

The word became flesh. The works Jesus did are an operational testimony of his credentials (believe the works).

I don’t see what this has to do with “inheriting the kingdom of God” or
“Not inheriting the kingdom of God” which occurs on the Day of Judgement, when He judges each one according to his deeds.

IOW, practicing the works of the flesh would prevent them from inheriting the kingdom of God... something that had not yet taken place.

Matthew 7:21 KJV
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

I suppose I am being seen as one of these people. Now this is a great tribulation to me.

I haven't brought about the kingdom by my works. Jesus brought about the kingdom, and my humbling myself (II Chronicles 7:14) will not work in the kingdom. I haven’t prophesied; if prophecy ever comes from me? It is His doing. The day of Pentecost said sons and daughters were fulfilling prophecy (in the kingdom to do this).

If we are not presently in the kingdom what power do we have to comment? If the apostles were not in the kingdom why do we read the New Testament?

If we are not in the kingdom are we not out of order? John 17 is a prophetic chapter where Jesus placed himself in multiple places / eternities. Jesus spoke of things completed that to the human thought were not completed. He spoke of completion before Pentecost happened, but Pentecost was going to happen.

I suppose I will LOL rather than cry.

I think our understanding is clouded over this point (which has influence over the options of disagreement you offered me.

He came in his humiliation. It was a real appearance.
This coming established the power for the kingdom the disciples entered at Pentecost.

He will come again in his glory. He is presently in his glory in heaven. John 17 takes a long time to absorb. Really go there for a long time. I have passages that took 20 years to get 1/2 way through (the glass is very dark).

Just because a falling away occurs in our present kingdom does not mean it does not exist. People fell away from Jesus. People fall away from us as we present the truth. If we are not (using ? - You put in an approiate Word) using the word planted in us to bring forth fruit, then we are not in the kingdom.

I wind up seeming strange. The kingdom I am in has me in prison in a sense. The kingdom seems imperfect, flawed, not real (does not yet appear). Being persecuted and dragged into court is just part of this marvelous kingdom of the now.

Put it off to the future? Naw. Swing from the chandeliers in the mind and drag out the ditches with the flesh. The flesh will be changed at the last trump ( that Is the Future / eternity).

This coming established the power for the kingdom the disciples entered at Pentecost.

Please quote a scripture that shows the disciples “entered the kingdom” at Pentecost.

21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, 22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, “We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.” Acts 15:21-22

We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.”

This shows that entering the kingdom is a future event.

I think our understanding is clouded over this point (which has influence over the options of disagreement you offered me.

Do you believe Jesus was teaching about the Day of Judgement when He referred to this statement-

34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
Matthew 25:34

if we are heirs, doesn’t that mean we are in line to inherit something?

that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:7

  • heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

He did not set up his kingdom.
He is in his ruling place now (in heaven and in us by his quickening Spirit).
Luke 24:21 KJV
But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.

Jesus was doing the work that would allow:
(Thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven)

So you agree, that when He returns, there will be a Day in which we enter the kingdom of God on earth.

Which is also known as inheriting the kingdom.

When Jesus prays:
"They Kingdom come Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven"
This refers to the Kingdom on earth which is in the heart of each believer -- if that's how you want to describe it, it's fine with me since it's true!

So, OK. This is the Kingdom of God now which Jesus said we must believe in to see...
John 3:3
This is such a beautiful verse. Usually we say that we have to see the Kingdom to believe---Jesus said we need to believe FIRST, before we can see the Kingdom.

But in John 14:3 Jesus tells the Apostles that He is going to prepare a PLACE for them. This is the Kingdom which will be inherited in the future.
Mathew 25:34
New American Standard Bible
"Then the King will say to those on His right, 'Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

So when we speak of the Kingdom of God, we can mean right now.
When we speak about INHERTING the Kingdom of God, it necessarily must mean a future event since to inherit, is future.

So you agree, that when He returns, there will be a Day in which we enter the kingdom of God on earth.

Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

Previous to this context passage, they argued about:
who would sit where
about Christ’s suffering

They were changed

Deep Well lol
What about the Lambs Book of Life

If our name is not expunged from the document, will we not see heaven based on our name being written therin? Not what we did, but the inward true belief?

Our document of adoption / marriage?
Wedding garment?
Lambs Book of Life?

Judgement is confirmation of being an heir. The day reads the will and grants the will of God. The death of Jesus / resurrection / assention / intercession is the power of our standing as an heir IMHO.

John 10:38 KJV
But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.

Establishing facts / doctrine
1. Believe me (words, scriptures)
2. Believe works (actions only God could perform)

With me:
you can say look what Jesus did and draw a conclusion. I will search scripture and decide if I accept your conclusion.
Or
I will look for a prophet / good king that did the same thing.
Or
I will look in nature / creation for a parable like example that agrees with the presented conclusion.
Or
With reserve a vision / dream.
