...who might be several feet apart.

When I was in school, the students were not several feet apart in the hallways during class changes. If someone had stood at one end of the hallway and shot with an inaccurate bumpstock, he would have taken out dozens. It would have been almost impossible to miss, there were so many children in the corridor.

Again, I'm not saying that outlawing bumpstocks or AR-15s will solve this problem. Just that telling students to throw books at a shooter is not much of a plan. Maybe better than telling them to hide under a desk, but still not very effective. They need a better plan than that.

Did you know that a .45 caliber round is almost a half-inch in diameter.... while an AR-15 round is less than a quarter of an inch?

Oh, absolutely. Banning the AR-15 won't solve the problem. That was never my point. I was saying that throwing books at a shooter who knows what he is doing is not very effective. Nor is telling young girls to distract a shooter by trying to tackle him so that their classmates can get away. They need a better plan than that.

OMG yes

To be honest I really don't know what would be more effective at this point. However, I am starting to agree with you on that one.

Squeeze your trigger finger as fast as you can..... counting how many times you squeeze it before 15 seconds have elapsed on a clock. Go ahead.... Now tell us how many times it was. That is how many times almost 90% of the rifles in the world can be fired in 15 seconds. A Semi-automatic weapon can kill far more people who might be several feet apart than a fully automatic weapon will....... because you can control it way better.

67. I just used a timer. Holy cow! I'd need a drum ...

One of the reasons fully automatic rifles are not often used in combat is because of their ineffective inaccuracy. A fully automatic weapon "CLIMBS" consistently as it is fired. It truly is almost impossible to hold it at the level of people standing right in front of you if you do not let off the trigger and begin using it more like a semi-automatic. (fire in small bursts) You will consistently fire more rounds up toward the ceiling if you do not let off the trigger.

Yes, they are more accurate at long distances. Classrooms are not in that range..... not by a long ways.
And those guys were only firing very short bursts. Had they held the triggers back, they would soon be firing almost straight up in the air.

Yes, they are more accurate at long distances. Classrooms are not in that range..... not by a long ways.

That's not the only reason. The shape and velocity of military rounds makes them turn around inside enemy bodies, and often shatter into fragments. This irregular trajectory causes extensive tissue displacement. Much more than a straight path, in one side and out the other, does. There are many studies on this. Gel tests and field medic experiences confirm the efficacy of small, high velocity rounds.

Rifles are definitely more effective at long range than handguns, if that was your point.

The first news story of the day is police in Marlboro Ohio (I have no idea where that is lol) are encouraging parents and grandparents that are gun owners to lock up their weapons and are handing out free gun locks to ensure that happens.
When I was a kid, I knew where all my dad's guns were and which ones were loaded.
None of them were locked up and I could go and get one if I wanted to.
I never felt the need to shoot anyone.

And, just as a point, noting is "free". Somebody paid for those gun locks; the cost came out of taxes.

We don't have a gun problem.
We have a people problem.

Chicago is an example of a city with very tough gun laws.
In the first two months of this year, there have been 286 shooting incidents and 78 slayings. (That's down 22% from last year)
Chicago had 650 homicides in 2017 and 762 homicides in 2016.
In 2017, Baltimore had 343 homicides, Philadelphia 317, New York 290, and Los Angeles 286.
That's 1,886 murders which are primarily gang related.
That's a people problem.
