My family has no church going traditions, but I have been attending the service for a few years now ever since I became a christian.
Already been there this year (christmas eve is on 24th here) and I did some volunteer work as sound technician. Originally I had hoped that would be an easy and relaxed job tonight - just switch the pastor's mic on and off and record the sermon - but our organist had cancelled his participation two days ago so our pastor did spontaneously bring up a band of five musicians.... *sigh* ... including someone with a saxophone and trumpet *double sigh* ... and he insisted on using a microphone. So after a short debate of trying to tell him his instrument needs a silencer rather than a mic I gave him a mic... and left it muted for the entire service. He was waaaaaay too loud even unplugged. Those brass guys have no idea how loud their instruments are!!! And I can't do anything to adjust their loudness other than bring a gun and shoot them.
Sorry for the rant.
Just wanted to say that I do go to church and volunteer in the christmas night service. I'm thinking, since I am single and usually have no urgent plans for afterwards I can just as well invest my time into the service.
