Should Valentines Day be banned? I have heard many say that is a secular holiday and has no good reason to exist. Is it Biblical? Shouldn't we show love to our one and only every day of the year and not just once a year?

For 38 long years, I was single. In that entire time the only Valentines I received were the little cards that come 30 to a pack with 2 larger one's for teachers. Most of them came during elementary school. The rest came when I worked at the day-care center. Then when I started working at the office, it was really a bummer. I'd be sitting there and watch the florists come with flowers, big balloon bouquets being delivered, co-workers coming in with these huge boxes shaped like hearts filled with candy, and I'd get the "pity the Old Maid" present from the other girls who felt sorry for me. :grumpy

Now I'm married. :love2 I've received 11 wonderful Valentines from my hubby. :kissing I figure I've 27 more Valentines to receive. So, in 27 years, if you still want to ban Valentine's Day, we'll talk. Until then, NO WAY, UN-UNH, BACK OFF.

I don't see anything wrong with it being a 'secular' holiday. Here in Australia in June we have a four day weekend celebrating the Queen of England's birthday, and other long weekends for ANZAC day and Australia day. They're all 'secular' holidays, and I don't see anything wrong with them. I don't see anything wrong with a holiday either.
But perhaps the so called 'issue' with Valentines Day is more the shallowness of the 'love' that is spread on that day. Perhaps, and yes it can be shallow love, but it also can get deepr.

So no, IMO Valentines Day should not be banned.

As Christians we should start on Halloween banning first then look into V-day, Easter, and possibly Christmas.

Really though, these Holidays are just vain and God is not upset about them. We need to be Christians no matter what day it is and serve God.

We do Christmas, Thanksgiving and thats about it.

Be blessed

Easter is the most important season in the Christian calendar.

Whether or not Valentines Day is biblical is irrelevant. Besides, there is nothing wrong with celebrating love between two people. The problem is people who only do so on that day and don't do it throughout the year.

a brief history of valentines day, the heart shape we all use is the symbol of the valentino(yes, that's a last name)brothers, originally christians wore this heart shape in dedication to the martydom of the valentinos who died refusing to worship a roman emporer, somehow it's morphed what it is now, and the date of the celebration stayed the same.
