1968 Project Camaro

Hey, what are you trying to say? In all honesty, I had a 71 Nova RS at the trailer park. But I had a mullet!

Umm.... 😂 I would like to retract my earlier statement and any offense or injury it may have caused. Truth is I did live in a trailer park myself when I had that first Camaro and it totally slipped my mind. That actually blows my mind! 😂.

That’s actually the funniest thing. Such a disconnect. A lifetime ago.

I graduated from high school a semester early and started working full time immediately earning enough money to buy a brand new Honda Civic which I drove off to college the next September. One year of college, then right back to work as an electrician apprentice. By the summer I convinced my mom to loan me money to trade in the Honda and buy a brand new 1981 Camaro Z28– you know the one, it was the last model year for them- with the T-Roof!

It had rear window louvers, centerline mag wheels, BFG Radial T/A’s..... I remember (when I actually try) driving it off the lot. I popped a Hall and Oates tape into the cassette deck and with the glass panels tucked neatly in the padded bags provided and stowed in the trunk I was rolling down the highway with “You make my dreams” on blast. I later upgraded to an Alpine stereo system because— 80’s

Cool! Too much work for me, however. The Just Cruisin' Car Club here in Winslow has an annual show with a Route 66 theme, and there are always plenty of muscle cars and reminiscing by those of us old enough to remember the muscle car era.

In college I had a 1965 Plymouth Barracuda that had been set up at the factory for racing, and it was pretty fast for a 273 with a Hurst 4-speed. I also had a 1968 Mustang fastback with a 390, factory Hurst 4-speed (and factory 8-track player!). When I married my first wife (who died of breast cancer after 33 years of marriage), her "dowry" included a 1969 Dodge Super Bee with a 383. I probably couldn't afford any of those cars now. (I actually tried pricing a restored Super Bee, and it was out of my league.)

In high school I had a 1963 Plymouth Fury with a 383 and a push-button transmission. By revving it up and popping the transmission, you could peal rubber. Alas, I was too dumb to realize I was also destroying the transmission.
