Topic: Doing things the new way

Highlight:

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 2 Cor 5:17

How can we protect ourselves from destructive ways?

Stop all your dirty talk. Say the right thing at the right time and help others by what you say. Don't make God's Spirit sad. The Spirit makes you sure that someday you will be free from your sins. Stop being bitter and angry and mad at others. Don't yell at one another or curse each other or ever be rude. Instead, be kind and merciful, and forgive others, just as God forgave you because of Christ.

Always be full of joy. Never stop praying. Whatever happens, always be thankful. This is how God wants you to live in Christ Jesus. Don’t stop the work of the Holy Spirit. Don’t treat prophecy like something that is not important. But test everything. Keep what is good, and stay away from everything that is evil.

Cooperate with the Holy Spirit of God to show you how to live a new life because after you have met with Jesus, you are not more the old person you used to be.

"Without saying a word, the man watched her closely to learn whether or not the Lord had made his journey successful." Genesis 24:31

Avoid getting used to the old ways as though everything depends on your efforts. Trust, watch and learn from God alone. God will make the finish product possible through His word and directions of His Spirit. "His ways are different from our ways", and He sees the end from the beginning'. Which means you should accept the grace of God through His will in Christ Jesus.

Grow your spirit everyday by taking quality time to study the Holy Bible which the Spoken words of God and join the community of believers around you. Begin to do things the new way. Psalms 1:1-2

Prayer: Teach me father how to do your will and to place my expectations on you alone in Jesus name. Amen

Amen to that.
Though I find it odd that you would command...suggest, joyfulness.
We can be joyful for many things, but I don't feel it is going to be manifested in prison or other trying times.

Actually, studying on joy, I learned a lot of the times true joy comes from the trying times. It always seems to be tied to persecution/enduring tribulation.

James 1:2-4 2Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter various [c]trials, 3knowing that the testing of your faith produces [d]endurance. 4And let [e]endurance have its perfect [f]result, so that you may be [g]perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Psalm 30:5 5For His anger is but for a moment,
His favor is for a lifetime;
Weeping may last for the night,
But a shout of joy comes in the morning.

John 16:22 So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.

And look at Paul and Silas in prison also. They sang hymns and spiritual songs in prison. Their joy brought those around them to Christ, because they could see the difference of being in Christ and the peace they had in their hearts. It is a command too. :) Bible says in Philippians 4,

4Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! 5Let your gentle spirit be known to all people. The Lord is [d]near. 6Do not [e]be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and pleading with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7And the peace of God, which surpasses all [f]comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Very uplifting devotion today!!!!!

I was just thinking that if readers aren't "filled with Joy" they will feel they are not "Christian" enough.
That is not the case, as we will go through highs and lows everyday.
I liked your allusion to Paul singing in prison with Silas.
But I bet he wasn't too happy while being beaten.
His joy came later, when the Philippian jailer and his family converted.

For sure. And yes. There is no condemnation in Christ Jesus!!!! (Romans 8:1). Job/Nehemiah, that joy did come later. But I found it interesting in study that a lot of joy is birthed through trials and pains. So it is good to look forward to, that joy does come in the morning.

Yes, James touches on this in James 1.

Joy is a delightful structure that does not depend on what you are getting at the moment but what you are going to get. Joy does not depend on what others are seeing right now.

Joy sees the future and maintain a delightful structure of it till reward is fully come. It's like someone waiting for promised money to be fulfilled on a future date. No matter how painful it is to wait, he/she will be joyful because sooner than later the problem will be solved when their money arrives.

Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as Christ is pure.

That's what joy can will make people do no matter what becomes of them they are in form and delight-some because there is going to be an awesome future of glory in Christ Jesus.

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, .....nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord (because it gives joy and pleasure to live in Christ than to be empty or without Christ).

Prayer: Heavenly father, give me the joy of life in Christ Jesus. In Jesus name Amen
