Cleansing ourselves from being a vessel of dishonor!

But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. 2 Timothy 2:20-21

The latter being a vessel of dishonor.

Each of us, must actively participate with the Spirit who dwells in us, to cleanse ourselves from being a vessel of dishonor.

It’s not hard to figure our what Paul is referring to here.

Vessels of gold and silver were put on display in a great house.

Vessels of wood and clay were for refuse and waste.

God does not desire us to be a “spiritual sewer” but to be cleansed and sanctified, set apart for every good use.

When we allow the things of the world in our eyes and ears, we are defiled with the things of this world.

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 1 John 2:15-16

The Spirit is jealous for us, that we would walk in purity more and more. He loves each of us passionately as a Husband loves His bride and desires her affection and attention all the time!

Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. James 4:4
