Sorry you got it wrong.
Exodus 20 :1,And God spoke all these words:

2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
3 “You shall have no other gods before[a] me.
4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
7 “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
13 “You shall not murder.
14 “You shall not commit adultery.
15 “You shall not steal.
16 “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

Your no 1 is found n Deut 6: 4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[a] 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

Did you not just read the commandments ?
So, you see more than one commandment in this sentence: And God spoke all these words: Could you write out the commandments that you make out of that sentence? I'm honestly at a loss to see one. Moses telling us that God spoke these words. It doesn't ask the reader to have to do anything, as I read it. What commandment do you see in this singular sentence?

I get the impression that you are just trying to avoid obeying the commandments of God.

Thanks, I get the impression that you haven't been following this conversation. Do you believe that there are 17 commandments? And I'm still waiting for you to tell me which commandments are found in the words: And God spoke all these words.

I am not denying the commandments. The discussion here is that one believes that every sentence found in the presentation of the ten commandments is, itself, a commandment. I disagree. Neither of our positions have anything to do with whether or not we are each willing or able to keep the commandments. It's merely a defining of what the commandments are. I don't find that "And God spoke all these words." is a commandment. The other poster believes that those 6 words are a commandment and has so numbered it and lists, then, 17 commandments for us. Do you agree with that understanding?

My apologies to all. I really need to work on my thinking here. Please enjoy a good laugh on my behalf.

When I read the list left by Who Me that he was enumerating the commandments, but I do see now that the Scripture verses there are numbered 1-17. I should put this up on the christian jokes thread.

Sincerely my apologies to all for my ignorance. Sorry! And it didn't help that D-D-W put up a post with 16 commandments.

Apparently not.

There are two commandments...love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength: and love your neighbor as you love yourself.

"And God spoke all these words" is an observation, and not commandment.
The "words" spoken were the commandments...at that time.
