What's Your Favorite Verse, And Why?

Nice topic.

Luke 9:23 And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.

When the Lord saved me, this was one of the first verses I memorized.

It is all about self-denial, dying to self daily.

Taking uup my cross, is enduring hardship, persecution, hatred and so on for following Christ.

As Macarthur puts it.....

Jesus was calling for a willingness to endure hatred, hostility, rejection, reproach, persecution, shame, even the most horrible death; to say no to self and no to safety for His sake (cf. 1 Peter 4:16). A sacrifice small when compared to the gift of eternal life.

The self-denial part is much easier said than done.

Grace and peace to you.

I have a three sections of verses that are my favorites:

"Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
BUT GOD, who is rich in mercy, for his GREAT LOVE wherewith he loved us,
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus
". (Eph. 2: 3-7)

Think of it!! We WERE "children of wrath" by our very nature, even as others. BUT GOD... Two amazing words. it's like I was running down a pathway to hell in full sprint----BUT GOD---stepped into my pathway!!! IT IS ALL OF HIM. He is the one who stepped into my path---I wasn't looking for Him! And he takes this person, a "child of wrath" and not only saves me--but it says "THAT IN THE AGES TO COME HE MIGHT SHEW THE EXCEEDING RICHES OF HIS GRACE AND KINDNESS TOWARD US THROUGH CHRIST JESUS" (V. 7).

We DO NOT DESERVE for God to even step into our pathway. BUT GOD.... He "raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus"--and then for the "AGES TO COME He will show us the exceeding riches of his grace in his KINDNESS TOWARDS US through Christ Jesus". We did NOTHING to deserve any of this!!! It's absolutely amazing and makes you want to leap for joy and shout His praises!!!

1 John 3:1 says: "Behold what manner of Love the Father has LAVISHED on us that we should be called the sons of God". It truly is amazing. And imagine this: from a "child of wrath" to a very son of God:

"He that overcomes shall inherit ALL things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son". (Rev. 21:7)

Incredible!!!!! From "Child of wrath" to inheriting ALL THINGS, and being a child (son) of God Himself!!!

Thanks for this thread my dear brother!!! I am rejoicing with all of my heart after thinking of these things!!!

Acts 2:17

14But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: 15For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. 16But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; 17And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: 18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: 19And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: 20The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:

It is where I am at Acts 2:17 , for the @ 10 years it has been only believable to me because the things that have happened to me are told of in the Bible .

After a well let me put it this way during an eventful evening in my life some years ago as I stood outside looking to the south on clear night I saw a flash of light to the east at the horizon and then about 2 seconds later a flash of light to the west at the horizon and then a heard a beastly roar unlike anything I have ever heard . It sounded like a cross between a loin and Godzilla of movie fame , the volume of the roar I would estimate a beast the size of two elephants . I did not go look for the beast .

Psalm 119 (NASB 77' .. except for the words within the parenthesis, which are meant as a helpful commentary, of sorts)
9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Thy word.
11 Thy word I have treasured* (hidden/stored up) in my heart, that I may not sin against Thee.

This passage has a very wonderful and personal meaning to me, but for now I will just say this about it, for those of us who wish to always walk before the Lord in a way that is pure and pleasing to Him, this little passage not only tells us what we need to do (v9), but how to go about doing it, as well (v11) :)

God bless you!!

*(Just FYI, the "treasuring" of God's word in our hearts has to do (principally) with the memorizing His word, parts of it anyway)
